I have my first appointment with my surgeon on Monday. I think I know what I should ask but if any of you  think of anything, let me know so I can put it on my list. I know I'll forget and since I'm menopusal, I'm lucky if I remember if I remember my bag when I walk out!

The surgeon is Alfons Pomp at NY Presbyterian/Cornell.

I'm also cross posting this on the main board.

Thank you!

I've heard good things about Dr Pomp. "Southernlady", Liz had him. Ask about osteoporosis and what might help you lose less bone as you lose weight.

Actually it was my husband who had him as a surgeon....altho if I had had MY way, I would have as well. My insurance company had other ideas.

Welcome to the lightweights board. Dr. Pomp is great!!!

Hurray.  An important first step.  Our program included so many training sessions before we met with the surgeon, I didn't have many questions.  Do you have a good program that will answer your questions about pre-surgery diet, insurance approval and requirements, time in the hospital, diet after and progressing throught the stages?  How long after to they follow you?  How often and what labs do they do?

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks I will ask those questions.  I originally went to NYU's seminar but was completely turned off because the vast majority was about the lap-band (maybe 5 minutes on each of the other procedures).  Even the live testimonials were lap band users.  I went out of it thinking that's what I would go for but when I started reading up on it, I decided not to.  And then a childhood friend shared her band nightmare and that was pretty much it for me.

My BMI is 39 so I'm not sure if I can get approved but I hope I can with my high blood pressure and high cholesterol.  Haven't done the sleep apnea test yet.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Well, if you have to have a co-morbid, sleep apnea is a good one to have.

My BMI was 35.2 pre-op but I was an insulin dependent type 2 diabetic on an insulin pimp.

Hi Teri! Welcome to the Lightweights!

I had surgery about 5 weeks ago and started with a BMI of 39. Hopefully your insurance's criteria are as easy as mine were! Sending good thoughts your way!

I had high blood pressure and after a sleep study very mild sleep apnea, but my surgery went through. For my insurance, I only had to have 1 comorbidality (sp?). My doc wanted the sleep study done to be sure that if I had sleep apnea it was being treated while I was on narcotics after surgery as they can suppress the breathing instinct.
