Daisy, wow, so sorry to hear that this happened to you and that it was so tramatic. I'm glad you are on the mend and hope your anxiety levels go down soon. Hang in there!

I'm so glad to hear all is well and that you were treated so well.  You must have been in a lot of pain.

It was pain like I have never experienced in my life - not even having 3 children using natural childbirth.  This event has completely rocked me mentally.  I am alone much of the time with no transportation.  I am more sore than with my initial bypass, and it is tender in places when I drink.  I won't eat solid food; I am so concerned abut the tenderness.  Just the thought of that pain returning has me unnerved.  I really need to discuss this with my surgeon when I see him.  I had an effortless recovery 2.5 years ago, and thi**** in an instance with no warning.  That is why is so disconcerting.

As Mothers we have experience with pain and I believe a higher pain tolerance and if this rocked you mentally then it must have been terrible.  I have heard just how painful this can be,  I don't blame you for being cautious eating.

Be good to yourself and gentle hugs to you!

I just recently experienced a bowel obstruction.Felt fine all day and then suddenly around 5 pm doubled over with pain.Felt nausea.I too had a bm earlier in the day.Called the hospital where I had my RNY and spoke to doctor on call.He said could be a bowel obstruction or could be my bleeding ulcer I previously had. With the hospital 2 hours away I chose to go to my local ER.THey gave me pain meds and did a cat scan.A bowel obstruction so I was transported to hospital where I had my RNY.Once there had emergency surgery, adhesions had taken my bowel and twisted it.She said it looked like a dishrag had been wrung out.The adhesions had adhered bowel to my tailbone. She started laproscopic but had to open me up.I had emergency  surgery on Wednesday.Still was feeling awful.I had an ileas.Where the bowel does not wake up after surgery.Surgery was on May 2nd came home on May 7th.Have felt terrible since, been back for ct scans, bloodwork, ultrasounds. This takes everything out of you.Because of where most of the extensive adhesions were she thinks probably caused by hysterectomy. The more abdominal surgeries the more adhesions.I have had 2 back surgeries where they went in thru the abdomen,2 female surgeries and rny.One thing I have learned if you think something is wrong follow thru, you know best.

Thank you for your reply.  I feel so on edge.  Ever since being released when I drink I have a very tender spot in 2 places in my abdomen.  Because my surgeon was in clinic the day I was released and because I was so full of narcotics when he was with me, I do not know much about where or why the obstruction occurred.  I know I am going to have to have follow up cts for my peace of mind.  I feel like my liquids are leaving my pouch much faster than before this happened.  I hope I do not have some kind of mechanical failure due to this trauma.  I'm actually surprised at the number of us who have experienced this.

I had my rny in July 2011.Since being relaesed from hospital on May 7th.I have had 2 ct scans, bloodwork, stool samples and an ultrasound.Today is the first day I have felt somewhat normal and have been able to eat and drink.I have lost 10 pounds since this has happened almost 3 weeks ago.It is a slow recovery.Be patient.I so hope this feeling of somewhat normal continues. The surgeon told me the pouch needs some time to adjust again.Hang in there.

What kind of diet are you on?  I received instructions "bariatric diet."  I have chosen to eat soft food stage  again.  Thank  you for the support.  I'm home alone, again, my gut is tender, and it makes me a little more than nervous.  I have had a shake this morning and will have another in a few minutes.  I have no doubt I will reach my goal due to this.  I look thin and gaunt.  I know that cannot be due to the 5 pounds I lost this week.  My daughter says she feels it is the med, the trauma, all of the above.
