Bowel Obstruction

Thank you so much Linda.  I'm more than a little nervous.  My husband is executor of an estate we are settling.  We go out of town often.  We have to leave again next week.  I'm nervous about getting too far from my surgeon.  My sister, a psychologist, says it is a little post traumatic stress and I need to process this and decompress.  I know she is right, but this was extremely unnerving because the pain was so intense.  I don't want to go through this again.  I was vomiting right to the moment they were taking me into the OR.  I thank God it is over and my surgeon was the one who operated.

Dasie - I am not sure what a bowel obtruction is but I am glad you were able to get help quickly and most importantly feel relief from the pain.  I too feel it is very important to have a great bariatric surgeon for after care.  Hope you continue to feel better and stronger every day.  Beth

Thank you...do a search on OH.  There is a great article written by a contributing doctor about the signs and symptoms. We all need to be informed about this.

I'm swinging lizards for your continued recovery.  I'm glad that you and your DH were so pro-active about getting the care you need.  Keep us posted on your recovery.

Some hernias are connected to bowel obstruction - or is it that bowel obstructions can cause hernias? Either way the symptoms can overlap.
And not only RnY but any abdominal surgery can cause adhesions, bowel obstruction or hernia.
Been there done that. Before RnY when I was only SRVG (open surgery Ring back in 1993) I had tummy pains for months and during my hysterectomy they found the beginning of a bowel obstruction.
Glad you get the right care and that you are on the mend!

You are right.  That is why I need to discuss with my surgeon whether the LBL will be a good idea...all things considered.  I'm not sure now.  Thanks Mikimi...

I think they cut skin in LBL and not down to internal organs.

I was wondering about the drains though.

Valid concern. Two months ago was hospitalized due to pain in lower left belly with suspicion of diverticulosis and they saw in my records RnY and my recent scar from TT .
As did the GastrO doc ask me as to surgeries and which king of cutting and how many layers.
With my TT the drains were in my mons.
