It's been a while since I have been here on Friday and we have lots of new folks posting so here it is

1.  When was or will be your surgery?  What type?

2.  What has been the best advice you have gotten to date?

3.  Urban?  Rural?  How does that impact your weight loss?

me first

1.  RNY 9-9-10

2.  Decarb, decaff and don't drink with meals before surgery

3.  Rural, i have a garden and eat out of it all spring, summer and fall.  Helps to have fresh food but it is hard to keep up with the amount.

1.  RNY 11-17-09

2. You have to keep a positive attitude  with this journey...it makes all the difference.

3.  Urban...We have a city park with a 3 mile track that wraps around the woods smack dab in the city.  That track is where I get most of my exercise post op.  It is a great family place and easy to walk 6 miles before I know it.

1. RNY 5-5-08  -- Just had my 4 year anniversary.

2. I've been reflecting on my surgery time and two pieces of advice keep coming to mind:
During pre-op phase create new/better habits of mindful eating (logging, no distractions like TV, etc)
While still in the hospital, the nurse (older male) told me to go slow with entering the different food phases -- don't ru****

3. Urban.  Lots of different types of grocery stores, etc. for variety is good.  The fast pace can be stressful which sometimes impacts my eating habits.

1.  When was or will be your surgery?  What type? Mine was almost 16 months ago, Jan 24th, 2011. I had a DS.

2.  What has been the best advice you have gotten to date? Let your body go as low as it can in the first two years.

3.  Urban?  Rural?  How does that impact your weight loss? Inside small city but area looks rural. Still hunting for good sources of fresh veggies, grain fed beef, etc. Closest are an hour away or more for the beef. Veggie markets haven't gotten in full swing, just opened.

1. When was or will be your surgery? What type?
August 11, 2011, RNY.  This was the best decision of my life.

Get a good doc.  My doc knows more than I do.  In the end, he and his staff have been right about everything.  He told me to work out more, and to really take advantage of the honeymoon period, so I got a trainer.  My trainer is fantastic.  He pushes me harder than I would push myself, and is also working to build muscles where there is a lot of extra skin, and it does look a lot better.  He says that I'm getting "ripped" - and look better than anyone he's seen at my age **big happy face**

Surburban. I like the access to a gym, and  I was able to sign up with one of those groups where you get a share of all the output from organic farms in the Amish area of Pennsylvannia.  I love the veggies and I'm learning about all kinds of veggies I've never had before.  - Does anyone know what to do with mustard greens???

Eliza, I can tell you what we do with them.  We cook them like Turnip Greens or Collard Greens.

Was really good to make sure there is no dirt on them.  Put in a pot and cover with water, add salt and some type of seasoning(used to use Fatback or bacon), you could probably use a little olive oil.  Coo****il tender.

I have heard of people just sauteing them in olive oil, but I've never tried that.

Thanks Linda. I'll try to saute in olive oil and a little garlic, and let you know how they are.

Please let me know if they are good that way.

I guess you figured out I meant "wash" instead of "was"!!  Nothing worse than getting grit(dirt) in a bite of good greens.

Yummmmm.  I love all greens but Creasy.  I couldn't believe there was actually one I don't love, but those are awful, or I didn't know how to cook them.

I love mustard but I guess my favorite is turnip.  I've always cooked them pretty much but will be interested to see what sauteing them does.

1.  When was or will be your surgery?  What type?  RNY 8/3/09 - it is hard to believe it has almost been 3 years!!

2.  What has been the best advice you have gotten to date?  Don't let a slip go too far!!  Stay aware of what you are doing.

3.  Urban?  Rural?  How does that impact your weight loss?  Rural there are lots of foods that we do not have in our local stores and I would have to drive to get these.  Sometimes I can't even find the Hood Calorie Countdown Milk that I use here.  It really bothers me that my surgeon is 4 hours away and there is no live support group anywhere near me.
