18 month appt

Today is my 18 month appt with my surgeon and I made an appt with the Nut at the same time.  It was suppose to be in March but because of my knee, got postponed to now.  I love going to the Dr these days and stepping on the scale which is remarkable to me after all those years of dreading it and the lecture that was going to follow.

I made the appt with the Nut out of curiosity mainly.  There are some of my labs I would like to know more about and I hope I can talk her into getting some levels drawn that aren't usually done like D and K.  The surgeon will order but she has to recommend. I'm taking my spreadsheet because I don't know if they look for trends like Gina has taught us to do.  I'm interested in what she has to say about my continued use of protein shakes although my practice generally doesn't have an issue with them.  I'm still eating high protein, low carb and 4 meals a day plus shakes.  We'll see what she says about that.

Mainly, I feel so fortunate to have this group.  I think my Drs group is good, not perfect, but so much better than so many.  At the same time, you guys are my support and my answers.  Thanks again and I will let you know how it goes.

Good luck with your doc appt, and your lab results.
I'm surprised your doc doesn't follow vit D.  Mine tracks that very closely for all patients, not just the malabsorbing ones.  And of course, with your RNY, you malabsorb as well.

so everything was fine today.  the Phycians Assistant was new and I saw her intead of the surgeon and that was fine.  She was very pleased and said I was at an ideal weight.  She thought from my labs I was doing a great job of keeping my numbers up.

they think the reason my liver enzymes are up is that the D3 is too high.  I am to leave it off entirely for 3 months and drop my calcuim back to 2x a day from 3x a day.  I'm not happy about that but will do it for 3 months.  Then we are retesting to see where I am.  I haven't had D3 tested since it was 122 and I went from taking the 50,000 everyday to 3x a week.

the other interesting thing is the meal plan they are still proposing.  2-3oz of protein, 2-3 oz of fruit or veggie, 5 meals a day.  1 protein shake or more.  I explained I was eating 4x a day but larger meals and 3 shakes a day and she thought that was ok.  Their "diet" is still, even at 18 months, no bacon, sausage, biscuit or any of that stuff.  the list of "no" foods was pretty long.  I don't consider any food a NO, but may chose to not eat some stuff or to severely limit to a bite or two.  I give myself permission to not be on a diet for the rest of my life, although part of that is mindful eating.

Interesting.

Dry D3 doesn't build up in your system the way oil based D2 does. They should have checked your D3 to see what going to 3 times per week did rather than telling to stop taking it for 3 months without a lab to back that up. That's ridiculous and 122 isn't all that high anyway.  If you feel you must stop the D3 for a bit, I wouldn't stop it for more than a month and then go back to the 50K once a week and retest.

Everytime I ask about D3, I get told that the ALT and AST will tell them if the D is off. That is from the PCP and the surgeons office. They are testing all of it again and the D3. If all of that other stuff tells them if the D3 is off, why didn't it tell them when my D3 was 22? I feel at such a disadvantage cause I don't understand when they are telling me all this and I don't think fast enough to process it all. Thanks for the help, Gina.

Oh yeah, with the ferrintin trending down, I am suppose to start iron every other day. What won't constapate me that I can buy locally?
