Confused about excess weight....
My oldest stepdaughter is a type 1, no wls, but she has reactive hypoglycemia. Too many carbs, not enough insulin, too much alcohol, being sick, stressed...all can cause her to go too low. She is mostly prone to extremely low blood sugars at night which can cause death.
A type 2 can wear out their pancreas but it still has the ability to produce insulin. May be very little but it's there. Unless you have been tested for the antibodies, the chances of becoming a type 1 is so close to zero as to be non-existent. However, LADA's or type 1.5's may present themselves as type 2's at first, but the only way to be sure you are a LADA is to have the antibody test. For anyone to just declare that you have become a type 1 without that test is not good.
I would ask your endo for the antibodies test for LADA to find out. If he brushes you off, find another endo.
Another clue to type, ESP early on is size. Type 1's and LADA's are almost always slender in build and only after years may become overweight. Most type 2's are obese...which is why the vast majority of the population blame our diet for our disease.
But if I were you, I would insist on the antibody test. About 90% of type 2's are still type 2's even after they wear out their pancreas. Type 1's have an autoimmune disease that attacks the pancreas...not that they wore it out.
