What does ur screen name mean?

My coworkers husband asked what my screen name meant. ( I have the same screen name for everything including games on my IPad.)  He knew that I had WLS  and while he hasn't met me, he has seen pictures of me.  He said she doesn't  really look like she weighs 499 pounds to me.  LOL!  She explained that I used to be an avid, out of control, NASCAR fan and my screen name is "Tonya for 99" who used to be Jeff Burton.  He now drives the 31 car, but that screen name is in so many places I just kept it.  That started a whole conversation of what screen names mean.

What does your mean?

Mine's nothing imaginative... just my initials.  Prior to my initials I had my first name.

I changed my avatar and name when OH started randomly putting peoples' posts on their FB page.  I haven't told the world about my WLS, and its a standard protocol that if we "friend" each other on our regular FB pages, we don't discuss... some discuss their own, but never "call you out"....

I totally understand and respect your need for privacy.

I, on the other hand, told everybody and their brother about my WLS.  LOL!  I've been extremely lucky and have received an incredible amount of support.  I am the poster child for WLS at the cardiology office I work at.  My success has changed some the doctors attitudes about WLS in general as well.  They are more likely to suggest it to their patients and discuss it with patients when they bring it up.  Even a couple of coworkers have approached me about having it themselves.  I know how lucky I am and thank my coworkers regularly for their support.  I know from this site that not everyone has that experience.

Mine is what I adspire to be...mostly used without the numbers unless someone has it already, then I use the numbers...but southern lady is my aspiration!

  • Southern Ladies are well bred. They are taught by their sisters, mothers, grandmothers and aunts, the proper manners and social decorum.
  •
  • We remember well our heritage, with pride in our family name. Our roots are carried with us wherever we may go. Southern born and Southern bred Ladies will always remain so.
  •
  • Yes 'mam, no 'mam, yes sir, no sir are part of the Southern Lady's language. Respect your elders, always give someone older than you, your seat. Please and Thank You too!
  •
  • Gentlemen know to give a Lady their seat, or to remove their hats upon entering a building. Ladies know not to wear white shoes before Easter or after Labor Day. No velvet after Valentine's Day, please. She always dresses as a Lady.
  •
  • A Southern Lady's father will always be her "Daddy" no matter what the delicate age of the Lady may be.
  •
  • Oh my, a Lady never gives her age, her timeless inner beauty and social decorum speaks for itself.
  •
  • She never uses inappropriate language, always the Lady. A Southern Lady knows how to address a situation without losing her temper. She carries her stature well, never haughty, but graceful.
  •
  • She is refined in her manners, dress, and deportment. She understands well the part of the shy debutante, or the graceful Lady of the House.
  •
  • A Southern Lady acknowledges gifts and correspondence well within the socially acceptable time periods. Organized and thoughtful, making proper introductions, as well as directing polite conversation at social gatherings.
  •
  • She is the gracious hostess, well prepared, serving her guests delectable food within a genteel atmosphere. Crisp table linens, fresh flowers, and iced tea always grace her table.
  •
  • She appears soft, and demure, while, actually she is strong, and bold within. A Steel Magnolia one might say. The lifeforce behind the Man of the House.
  •
  • History has shown that the Southern Lady values and guards a strong pride in the rich heritage of the South. She has been the strength when needed, but always remembering that she is a Lady. Well mannered, well bred, the Southern Lady.

I like it!  I was raised that way.  My family is from Texas.  I do okay except the language and occasionally my temper.  I was a sailor, raised around sailors and occasionally I forget my upbringing!    My friends don't get the yes ma'am, no ma'am thing and they they think my handwritten,on monogrammed stationery, thank you notes are over the top too.  Oh well!  I am well known for my parties though.  The hostess with the mostest. My mom would be proud!

Liz!  I've never seen such a detailed description of a Southern Lady!  It's fantastic!

I was born and raised in Alaska, but my Mom was from Texas and my Dad from Oklahoma.  So while not all of that description was applicable in Alaska, iIt definitely resonates in my "inner core"  as this is a mostly apt description of my Mom and some parts of it are definitely an integral part of me, mixed in with the frontier women who is exceeding resourceful, at times overtly strong and outspoken, and can do anything!  What a combo!

"Like" in so many ways. I was born in the south and even though I was raised out west, my roots and my heart are southern. I wish that there more southern ladies all over the country, I think it would be a better place.

Before my first grandchild I struggled with what my grandchildren would call me. Grandma seemed to old, "Mummu" our Finnish version of grandmother was also too old for me. So after thinking for 8 months , I accepted Nana because I found a Japanese anime with two girls named Nana, so I could accept that it could be used by a younger person. I always thought I wanted a different name instead of grandma too because my grandmothers were Grandma with their last names.
I found too that saying Nana came pretty quick in babies abilities to speak as my granddaughter grew up too.
Of course Liz is the name I chose when I was a teenager as I didn't want to be called Elizabeth and Beth seemed to be part of my childhood.
So Nana Liz has begun to be my call sign.
