My husband leaves for Afghanistan today

I know this journey is mine to walk alone, however I can't help but be terrified for many reasons today.  My husband leaves for Afghanistan today.  He has been my rock during this entire process & my biggest supporter.  He's been so very patient w/ me & puts up w/ my constant babbling about my weight, eating, exercising...he's just been fantastic.

I know I can be successful w/out him, after all, I'm the one in control of myself - however, it's just hitting me hard.  We have two teenagers (one will be graduating next year), I am now a full time college student & w/ my new lifestyle (wls)...I am a bit overwhelmed.

We've been through many deployments before, but somehow this one seems different.  He has a very dangerous job over there (he's a Military Police Officer) & will be in the thick of it.  I'm nervous for him & am trying to find a way to balance my life out.

I've never been an "emotional eater", but just the opposite.  I tend to not eat @ all when I'm upset.  I know that this is not an option for me & I will make sure that I keep to my schedule.  I just know that it is going to be a struggle for me.

I see a therapist/life coach, so I have support on that end...but everything else.  ::sigh:: I've always been the strong one in my family, so why do I feel like I'm falling apart?

Thanks for letting me vent.

I know exactly what you are going though.  My husband is currently in Afghanistan too, and left just a month after my RNY.   He was my rock, and my constant though everything I had to go though.    I  understand all your feelings.   We have been though many deployments before this, but this is different with all my changes.   WLS changes us, and I know he struggles not being around to be here while I change also.   Good luck with everything.  I still feel overwhelmed with it, and we only have a couple months left of his deployment.   Good luck with everything.

Please also realize that you are losing weight quickly and hormones are stored in our fat cells.  Losing the weight releases the hormones quickly and in larger amounts and that can be overwhelming in itself.

Hugs and prayers going out to you and your husband.  Please stay here with us on the board and let us help you through the rough patches.

i think that the weight loss experience with all its changes can be very unnerving.  not surprising that it's different this time.  i admire you strength and thank all of you wives of servicemembers for all that you are giving to this courntry.

lean on your therapist, try to get support from other wives, and realize you're not alone in this!  (((((((hugs))))))

Christina, thank your husband for his service and thank you for yours as well.

We have your back...while I am not a military spouse, I was military. So I do have some inkling of what you are dealing with. It's never easy but it is needed.

I'm sorry your DH has to leave and you are going to miss his support but I'm thankful that you are both sacrificing for us.......

I went through some real emotional months after surgery.  I'm not normally like that so it was a shock to everyone.  I'm sure WLS and all of the changes are adding to you feeling  a bit overwhelmed right now.

Just imagine how GREAT you are going to look when he gets back!

Thank you to you and your husband for serving our great Country.  No soldier ever serves alone, but his/her family serves alongside them. You have my admiration.
