Good Morning. Let me tell you about this guy at work

He has lost weight and looks great. You know what he's doing? He's gone local organic. He eats only locally raised grass-fed beef, free-range chicken, and wild fresh-caught salmon. He eats only veggies from local organic farms or his own garden. No diary, grains or beer--only meat and veggies. He doesn't even do protein shakes but he did to get started. I just thought it was very interesting and wonderful to see the kind of results he's gotten going all natural and limiting himself to meat and veggies. So, the next time you or I need to lose a few perhaps natural meat and veggies is the way to go. Good food for thought anyway. I don't think this is the only answer when you are pre-op and have 100 pounds more or less to lose, but it might be a good way to address stalls and regain with the tools (WLSs) we now have.

I'll have to ask him if he's working out--we didn't talk about that yet but he knows all I do is walk. He doesn't know about my WLS, or I don't think he does or has guessed. Anyway, I'm celebrating with him. :)

Y'all have a great week and try to make this a good Monday.

Minus the organic and add the protein, that is basically how I eat.  Meat and veggies.  It certainly is what I go back to if I have gone astray.

It's cold and windy here.  I have to take the car in for service, go to the farm and paint, then head home to drive Chili.  He got yesterday off but I have to drive ever day I can to build his fitness for the competition coming up.

That's awesome!  Where does he buy his organic food from?

My daughter is pretty big on organic too - at least for the baby.

I had an email today from Prevention (get the magazine) and it said "how to lose the belly fat" - and said eliminate wheat from your diet and went into how in the 60's scientists in Mexico engineered wheat so it grew faster - and it change the metabolic nature of it and how our bodies process it - good for the farmers - not so good for us.  Of course its in a book, and you have to buy the book... I was thinking about googling it and seeing if I could get some more info on it - said it went into the history of it too.  I would find that interesting.  It also said if you rid your body of wheat, you won't crave it - sounds familiar, huh?

I've got 2 weeks until my trip with my girlfriends.  I REALLY need to see if I can knock 5 lbs off.  Ok - cut out the beer - got it!  I do pretty much stay meat/veggie focused but can tend to stray... I know I need to decarb... and get exercising!

See if your public library can get a copy for you - that's how I figure out if I actually want to buy most books these days.

I do have to say, as long as I stick with fresh/raw veggies and meat I do far better than if I eat anything processed.  Of course, these days, almost anything you get at the grocery store (including their supposedly "fresh" chicken and beef) has had sodium and other enhancers injected, but the cleaner I eat, the better I feel and do.

Sombody on the forums suggested this book http://www.amazon.com/The-End-Overeating-Insatiable-American /dp/1605297852 that I had my library pull in for me - great explanation of what's going on in the food chain, and how to deal with it.

I read that article.  I think the book is called Wheat Belly.  I haven't read it yet but plan to.  I do want to say that I agree 100% with it.  Especially the part where it talks about how addicting it is.  And I have to say that since I have been wheat free (and gluten free) I really don't crave it at all.  It is much easier to avoid it for me then it is for me to control it.

We have a local farmers market here during the spring/summer.  I love to go on Saturday mornings and get fresh veggies.

When I get off track, I start back to protein first.  My pouch must still be small because if I eat the protein first I can hardly hold anything else.  If I eat salad first I can eat more.  Of course, I can eat lots of carbs - wonder why that is????  They must just crunch down to nothing or slide right through.

I need to do payroll today.  I have staff meeting minutes for the last two weeks I need to get done...  I hate typing minutes-2 more years!!  Hope to get a run/walk in this afternoon.

It is cold here this morning.  I had to go back in and get a jacket.

Going all natural has some advantages....but it can be expensive on the budget.

One book very popular with the diabetics I am in a group with is a book called Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight, and Find Your Path Back to Health by William Davis

The ones who have read it and follow it, have lost weight, stabilized their blood sugars to normal, etc.

Before we moved, I knew where the farmer's market was but it wasn't that good. Need to find the one here. But as cold as it is here, who knows. I also planted my own baby garden this year so we hope to have fresh veggies later on this summer.

On another note...2 cats and one puppy later, my macbook pro power cord is dead! I haven't decided which one dies first, ;) The kitties that started it or the puppy who finished it off...was still able to use it in spite of the kitties. Now I am stuck with my old laptop, thankfully I have one. Need a new power cord since sharing my husband's is NOT an option...mine is a 17 inch pro, his is a macbook air...need to order one from ebay! We've replaced his THREE times but could use mine to recharge his while we waited for his new ones. Can't do that in reverse since his power is a much smaller one than mine needs..we'd short his out trying.

I think he's got it exactly right.  I think that when we eat food that's not as nutrient rich, I crave more food.  I can walk to my local farmers market and love to shop there.  I pretty much eat all organic veggies and berries.  Meat, not so much because I'm unemployed.  I seem to want more seafood than meat these days.

I think we'd all be better off without wheat, or at least I would.  My mom had celiac Sprue so I shouldn't be messing with wheat, but I still am.   I know, right?

I like to buy organic fruits and veggies but sometimes the selection looks like something I would have thrown out a few days ago.  I suppose unless you're at Whole Foods, there isn't the turn over in regular groceries.

I do buy my beef from my DIL family and its grass fed, no abx, no hormones.  It's really lean and has a good taste.
