The worst pain ever
I had my VSG mon. And I'm in the worst pain then I imagined. I just coughed without warning and it sent me over the edge in tears. It felt like something popped thru on my right upper side of abdomen. I was due for my pain meds so I took them but doubled the dose. I was having a painful day aside from that episode. I'm now icing my abdomen and I'm starting to feel some relief. When does this get better??? When does this turn around? When does the pain lessen? I feel as much pain as I did on the first day post op.
When are you supposed to see your surgeon? You might want to call and let them know how much pain you're in and that it's not getting better. Keep us posted.

If it gets worse or you start running a fever, call your surgeon and get yourself to the ER.

I'm so sorry that you're in so much pain. Please do keep an eye on your temp to be sure you're not having an infection. Call your surgeon again and make them listen.
Coughing will be painful. Keep a pillow close so you can hold it close to yourself if you cough or sneeze.
On day 5 I got down 64oz of fluids and walked on the treadmill. I'm concerned about your pain level. Are you still taking pain meds? I think I gave up the Vicodin on day t or 6.

If the pain is a burning pain, are you taking an acid reducer or PPI? Excess acid can cause some pain. As the others have said, use a pillow for support when you cough and if you start running a temp 100 F or higher call your surgeon right away.
I had some complications, but I was feeling better by day five and wasn't taking any pain pills. The side may feel more sore, since that is where the stomach was removed. Just keep up with the pain meds and don't let it get too bad, before you take another dose. If you wait too long, it won't be as effective. You could use liquid Tylenol in between your doses of pain meds, if needed. Liquid Tylenol is safe to take.

Don't hesitate to call your surgeons office as often as you feel you need too. I had more pain than most that I have heard. He told me he had to cut a muscle and believe me, it hurt so bad I thought I couldn't stand it. Just getting in/out of bed made me cry. I continued pain pills for over a wee****il it subsided. Call the doc's office again just to make sure they are aware of your pain and to ease your stress. That's what they are there for! I wish a speedy recovery for you!!
I just sent my husband out for a thermometer and liquid Tylenol . Great idea! The burning sensation doesn't feel like heartburn burning but more like muscle burn. When I coughed. Excruciating pain. Im less then thrilled with the front office of my surgeon. This is day 4 and I can't walk around my house with out holding my abdomen. I can't even imagine getting on a treadmill much less walk around the block.
