Good Morning. Have your sleep habits changed?

This is a week polls isn't it? lol

Have your sleep habits changed since your surgery? Do you find you need less sleep or need to go to bed earlier?  You folks that have insomnia has that improved or gotten worse?

I know when I was in my second year post-op and maybe before that, I seemed to need less sleep or maybe it was that I was getting a better sleep in a shorter amount of time once my sleep apnea was resolved. Some mornings I sure wish I could get the old dog to sleep longer but she was up before 4AM and wasn't going to go back under the bed and go back to sleep... {sigh}

My sleep habits have not changed due to surgery rather due to my sweet Maltese.  She has severe cataracts and is going blind.  She no longer wants to sleep in the bed for very long, but she also does not want to be alone in the room where her bed is and where my desk is.  So every morning around 12:30 am she fusses until I get up, take her to her pillow and I lay on the sofa in that room.  She is so funny because she literally sits up until she knows I am laying down.  Needless to say...this isc ausing me great exhaustion.  I am going to buy a new bed and put it on the floor in my bedroom and leave the bathroom light on for her.  I hope that will help.

The only thing I noticed about my sleep post op was if I exercised really late at night or if I drank one of my rich dark chocolate protein shakes late at night.  If I did either of those, I had difficulty falling asleep.  So now I won't drink a protein shake late at night.

Hard to say.  I have gotten rid of the CPAC and that was wonderful.  I am off all pain meds for bedtime which I was first on for my knee and hip, then on after the knee replacement.  I am still up at least 2x per night but still sleep my 8-9 hrs.  Go to bed early, up early.  Yes, old dogs to play into the picture.  The mini pin has congestive heart disease and sleeps with us.  The lasix has made him wet the bed 2 x this week.  That will wake you up for sure.

When my sleep apnea is well controlled then I sleep less.  For some reason, my AHIs are going up again (they do that about every 6 months), so I am much sleepier right now.

I don't think my sleep habits have changed since my surgery but definitely since DD and family has moved in.  I like to stay up later now just to have a few minutes of quiet after everyone goes to bed.  I also have been taking a sleep aid every night just to get calmed down.  I'm hoping it all changes when their house is ready for them to move into in the fall.

Before WLS I snored pretty badly according to DH. I had the sleep study and they gave me CPAP. He reported at some point that I quit snoring, and I quit using the CPAP not that I ever got used to it. However, now that I have gained some weight back he says I'm snoring again. I don't know why but I don't fall to sleep as quickly as I used to. I tried the Melatonin that the doc suggested but that makes me not feel so hot in the morning. So I just pray myslef to sleep. also tylenol Arthritis seems to help I think. Other wise I think my sleep habits are about the same. I understand about the pups. We have 3 mini schnauzers and on the nights before I get up at 4:15 they sleep in their pen, 12 paws and 4 legs in the bed and I'm fighting to get a leg out when I have a hot flash! LOL

Whew!!! Glad I'm not alone with dog issues -- I'm up once per night to let mine out some nights twice. Sad to see them get old.

I still require 8+ hours -- haven't slept in for quite a while. Maybe Saturday????

Right now (due to my jaw), I am having trouble going to sleep but once I do I'm fine. I do fine on about 6 hours sleep which is 2 more than I was getting back last year even post-op.

My kidneys wake me up around 4ish but I am able to go back to sleep easily enough til about 7.

But right now, I have to sleep in a reclining position or I wake up with my face all swollen with edema. I still have a swollen face in the morning but laying on just one pillow would make me miserable.

Sometime in June I will be going for a repeat sleep study to check the hypoxia issue and make sure it's resolved.

Mine has changed because I got rid of my CPAP.  I was one of those strange people that absolutely loved mine.  It made me feel so good in the mornings.  I had to let it go because they could not get the pressure any lower and I just didn't need it.  I blew air all night.

Little Willie sleeps with us.  He very rarely wakes up until we get up.  Sometimes we have to drag him out of the bed!!  If he gets next to you he is going to heat you up in a hurry.  So hot.

I don't seem to need as much sleep as before.  I still have to get up every night around 3 to go to the bathroom, but usually go right back to sleep unless I have alot on my mind - then I can't sleep anyway.  I need an on/off switch for the mind sometimes.

I still have insomnia but now it's not just getting to sleep, it's waking up too early.

I can't say if it's due to my surgery or just getting older. I do think I function on less sleep better than I used to.

I love to sleep. It's really a shame you get less of it as you age.
