Hello everyone,
I'm Robin. I'm 5'1" (rounding up), 215lbs. I've had one hell of a ride with the band... check out my signature and you can see my yo-yo weight. I've decided to switch from Band - RNY... Surgery April 25. I'm just learning that I'm a lightweight - who would have thunk it? The thought scares me... Not the surgery... but the slower part. I honestly want to lose 100% of my weight and I know thats a long stretch. I thought I'd be skinny by Christmas, now I'm learning things could go slower... I guess what I've learned so far on these forums...
. Everyone's journey is different.
. NO eating and drinking.
. Don't fear dumping, just learn from it.
. Slow and steady wins the race.
. Work out
. Follow food plans
Any other advice?
Were you scared at the thought of slower? Does lightweight ALWAYS mean slower?
Thanks for all replies

Welcome aboard. I think revisions may find things a little slower going sometimes but lightweights lose just as fast--we just have less to lose. Many of us make it to goal, or at least normal BMI, in 6 months--not so slow, really. :)
Congratulations on making your decision and getting your surgery date set. I'll add you to our pre-ops list.

Welcome to the lightweights.
As Gina said, we don't lose 40 lbs in the first month, but some of us just keep on losing at a pretty steady pace. Percentage wise, we lose like everyone else except most of us actually make it to a normal BMI. I never had a stall. And I was at goal in a year, lost a little more then settled up a pound or two.
Advice? If you haven't decarbed, decaffained, decarbonated, do it now. It will make things a lot easier.

Welcome, Robin!
As Price and Gina said, if you consider loss as how much (percentage) of the excess is gone, we lose just as fast as anyone else. If you must consider loss as pounds alone, yeah, we lose slower. But seriously, some heavyweights lose 30-40 pounds in their first month - in our case, the weight would literally have to melt off and we'd be done in about 2 months. Not at all healthy!
So hang in there, and drop the weight as your body is willing!

Welcome! This is a great forum! I've lost 60 pounds in just over 3 months. My dr said that's pretty good. Skinny is relative too. I wear a 14 pants (a little loose) and large shirt and I feel skinny! I still have 40 left to go but I am really happy and my self esteem is soaring. You will be happy at Christmas even if not completely at goal! Good luck!

Hi and welcome. I fully expected to lose slowly because I was a revision and my first surgery was very malabsorptive. I had the revision to reduce the malabsorption. My surgeon warned me that I might not lose any weight at all so I tried to prepare myself.
The first 10 days I lost 26 lbs. I had fantasies of hitting goal in 4 months lol. Of course I didn't lose another pound for weeks but I was surprised at the rate I did lose. I lost much better this time around then I did the first time. I reached a normal BMI in 6 1/2 months and my goal in 10 1/2 months. And kept losing. I didn't expect that. I thought that once I hit goal my calories in would match up with the calories out and I would stop losing. I lost for another 4 months and got way too low. I never thought I would lose that much weight. I finally stopped losing and started slowly regaining a few pounds so now my BMI is in the normal range again. I'm not really trying to gain any more because many times you experience a bounce back after losing weight with surgery. I heard it could be 10% or more of your lost weight so I figure I will be ready for the bounce back and that should land me right where I want to be.
I guess what I am trying to say is there is no way of knowing how fast you will lose or how much but your really are in control. Because of my failure with my first WLS I was determined to follow my post op diet to the letter. I completely avoid sugar and gluten because I would get out of control when I had them and that has really helped me not have any cravings. I'm pretty inconsistent with the exercise, though. Looking forward to the warmer weather so I can ride my bike.
Maintenance is turning out to be much more of a challenge then the weight loss was. For me I won't consider myself a success until I have kept the weight off and stayed at a normal BMI for at least 5 years, even though that doesn't guarantee anything. I actually managed to stay in a normal BMI range for the first five years of my first surgery and then my eating got really out of control and the pounds piled on.
