Keep breathing and remember they won't be there that long.

I had that same issue.  I loved my parents dearly, and spent as much time as I could before they died.  But to her dying breath, I could never live up to my Mom's perfectionism...She could let it go for others, but her standards for her own family were unachievable which added tension to our relationship.  ( I am generally considered to be an overachiever by all except my mom).

Well, my husband uses the disappear method. He will randomly disappear  and I will find him in some odd room in the house, getting away from it all. Since I do all the entertaining I really can't do that but if you need to slip away for periods of time, just do it:) Be extra sneeky! lol or like the other have said meds or drinking helps too! lol good luck:)

Good Luck.  I will be thinking of you.  I recommend red wine.  White works too.

Family brings out the best and worst in us.  I'm never uglier than when I react to some of the crap my brother dishes out.

Thanks, guys. So far we've only had one "discussion" about politics. My DH tends to tune out when we get like that. Politics and religion are usually off-topic, right? You don't know my parents. {sigh}

My daddy is that way, LOVES to talk poliitics.

My Mother never did but then again, she's not around anymore...

So in spite of the off limit topics, give your parents a big hug...we never know how long they will be around.

I barely survived a shopping trip to G-Street fabrics...was able to escape and go down to Ace Hardware. Forgot to  gas the car up while I was there. Crap! Rattled much?
