 Hi everyone! I'm Bella!

I had RNY on valentines day and have since lost 35 lbs. I workout everyday and feel really strong, but I have lost all muscle tone- I am so loosey goosey! I am telling myself it will come back eventually, but I am having a little bit if a hard time adjusting to the difference! Anyone else go through that?
I look forward to getting to know you all better!

Welcome to the LWs, Bella.  Glad you found us.

You are still early out from major surgery and it sounds like you are doing great.  The strenght will catch back up with you but your body will need a little while to adjust to the new you as you go along.  Glad you can work out and that will definately help, both in terms of strenght and with your continued weight loss.

Welcome to the LW forum, Bella...

Apparently most of MY muscle tone was just weight. Almost 15 months out and I STILL have none to speak of...if I exercised, it might help. But my exercise is home renovation and gardening/yard work.

I used to think I was pretty strong as well, now I feel very weak.  I work in an OR and have to move pts from bed to bed, I guess I used to put my weight behind it and pull them because now sometimes I have a lot of difficulty.
Welcome :)

WELCOME!  Glad you are off to a great start.....I totally understand about the "loosey goosey"!  I recently added some weight training and I'm starting to notice a little difference in my strength.

Keep up that protein!
Hope to see you on here often!

Welcome to the boards! This is a great place for information and support.

I had my surgery last July, and feel great. My surgeon strongly suggests weight training to reduce muscle loss, but I haven't done that yet. But I do walk/run daily and feel like I am getting stronger every day. My new goal is to actually start strength training as I can feel some of my bones (especially in my butt!) and would like to build muscle.

Good luck! You are doing great!

Hi Bella

Welcome to the lightweight's board.  It looks like you are doing fine post-surgery.

I am no longer able to lift a 35 lb suitcase into the overhead bin on an airplane....But that's just as well, because  lifting suitcases overhead was giving me frozen shoulders (I had 2).

I work out 3 times a week lifting weights, and have the smallest muscles in the gym.  But slowly, I am able to increase the amount of weight I can lift. I'm in great shape from a cardiovascular perspective - can go for miles without getting winded, which is a huge improvement.  So I'm happy, although I'm beginning to believe that I will always have a back and butt that looks like a sharpei.

Welcome to our LW board, Bella and Congrats on your Surgery!!!

Like someone else mentioned I was pretty strong before surgery but I think it was also my weight that I put behind me.  I feel really strong and healthy but in reality I am healthy and weak. I struggle now with opening a jar!   I don't exercise other than walking some and chasing after grandchildren but I feel better than I have in years.

Other's have built up muscle so if that's important to you then just keep working toward that goal.  Keep your Protein totals up!  The best way to do that is to find a Protein drink that you enjoy.  There are 100's of them out there.

You're doing great.  You will lose a little muscle along the way.

I had surgery 3 years ago now.  Have to say I am not as strong as I used to be but I don't feel weak.  I think I looked a little drawn and felt a little weak the first year., but that seemed to resolve over time.   Keep exercising.  It will make a difference.
