Protein coffee makes me sick
I have been struggling with protein drinks ever since got sick in February. My one exception was protein coffee. The last 3 days I have thrown it up. I really need the protein. The way I make it is 4 oz of 2% milk, 1/2 scoop of protein powder and half a cup of coffee. I drink 2 of these. (total of 8 oz milk, 1 protein scoop, 1 cup of coffee)
Could I be lactose intolerant? I've read that happens sometimes after WLS. I haven't drank milk since I left home at 18 because i really don't like it. Any ideas? I tried half and half early out and threw that up right away.

I thought lactose only effected your bowels. I have never liked milk (except when dipping oreos....LOL) and since surgery it makes me even more nauseous. We drink fat free so It can't be the fat in it but something makes me dump on it.

Are you eating anything with it or only the protein coffee?
You might try iced protein coffee and slow down just a tad.

I'm using Isopure Dutch Chocolate in either in water or Almond Breeze (2 carbs per cup). It's lactose free protein powder. I don't like anything in coffee so I make it into hot cocoa. 1 scoop 25 protein. If I am going to be short on protein I have a double in the morning and then I know I'm set.

i don't make my protein coffeee with milk. I make 3-4 cups of coffee and add 1 1/2scoops of protein. I mix the protein with water, then add it to the coffee. I use chocolate, mint cookie or vanilla protein.
If you have been making it with milk, I would be surprised that you all of a sudden are lactose intolerant. I guess i thought if that was going to happen, it happened right after surgery. Maybe try it with water and see if it was the protein or the milk.

My lactose intolerance only gives me horrific gas and bowel pain. Could it be the caffiene or the acid in the coffee? I do get very bad pain in my belly when I drink any caffeine or have acidic drinks. I know most people can tolerate a little caffeine, but even tea makes my pouch cranky after 3 or 4 days, and my doc always tells his patients to stay away from it.
You might try the chocolate recommendations above.

I make my drink other very cold with 2 scoops PP (Protein Powder) with 2-3tsp coffee (whichever I want- but I use only instant powders) and upcalD in 700 ml and lots of ice in a Blender Bottle (20oz) shake well and then I add my milk (about200-250ml) and shake again.
I do sometimes drink PP coffee but I use a large thermal cup I fill 3/4 full with water and zap in microwave to be very hot and after I take it out I add 2-3tsp of my coffee of choice I stir very well and add my milk and stir again and then very slowly trickle 1/2-3/4 scoop of PP into my large cup as I keep stirring.
I do leave my long teaspoon in the cup to stir before I drink.
Your vomiting might be due to how my hulk at a time if you don't lke or don't drink milk on a regular basis. I suggest you try mixing more water and less milk to see if that makes a difference.
I hope my ideas are a help to you.
