I'm Still HERE....
Wanted to say a big HELLO! As sometimes happens, I've been AWOL from Obesity Help because I've been enjoying the heck out of my new life!! I do pop-in occasionally and read the board but haven't posted in a while...
As I approach my 2-year surgiversary I've been reflecting on my progress and refocusing my motivation and thought saying hello here and checking in was a great first step....
Overall, I am doing so great and life is good! Some updates:
~ I maintain my weight within a 10 lb. range....some days I see 120-122 and some days I see as high as 131-132. (those days are scary for me but I reel myself in and make sure I'm back on track and the number decreases back within a comfortable range.) I recently got out my tubs of summer clothes to go on a Spring Break cruise. I was dreading it because for years normally when I take out my seasonal clothes they are too tight....guess what, all my size 4's and 6's from last year still fit!!! Amazing!
~I don't do any type of "formal" exercise on a regular basis but I do stay super-active, always moving and generally walk 40 minutes or so several times a week.
~ I have religiously kept up my vitamin regiment and LOVE having my levels checked and getting praise from my doctors!!!
~ As far as eating is concerned, I'm all over the board---good days, compliant days, bad days, snacking days, too much sugar days, not really consistent on my eating but always striving to do better and follow the rules. My tool ALWAYS works when I use it correctly.
~ I've never really been a "dumper".....I just have had various episodes of "discomfort" when eating too much sugar or pasta but back in January/February I had several MAJOR dumping episodesover the course of 3 or 4 weeks...don't know specifically what triggered them but DANG....it was a rough couple weeks. All I can say is, you will definitely KNOW if you are dumping.....it's up there with child-birth (no epidural type!) Haven't had an episode in a while though....don't know what was going on but I'm pretty sure my body was rebelling from non-compliance eating. I learned my lesson.
~I've found that I love cooking and planning meals now----we hardly ever eat out anymore unless we are out of town or order Chinese/pizza. My absolutely go-to foods are beans, soups, and wraps with lots of veggies.
~I've personally inspired and helped 2 fellow teachers with a surgical journey with my doctor....I LOVE watching their losing journeys (one had surgery in Dec. and one in Jan.) and THEY help me stay on track!
As I am ending my school year (only 34 more schools days!) I hope to be more of a presence on the board again....I really want to "step-up" my journey and stay on track now that my "honeymoon" period is officially over. I noticed lots of new posters with recent surgeries and love seeing how they are doing! Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the season!
Smiles Always....Peyton

The teacher that had surgery in January - did State Health pay? I thought they were not paying for any after December 31st. I hate that they started back excluding WLS. I have a teacher friend that has diabetes and was just thinking about starting the requirements and I had to tell her State Health was no longer paying for this. Do you know of any exceptions to the rule?
I'm glad you posted an update to let us know how you are doing. I can tell you maintenance is a lot harder than losing the weight. I love to cook now also and very rarely eat out anymore.

I used to get upset when I dumped and the hiccups drove me crazy but now I'm so happy that my tool is still work over 3 years later that I do the happy....

I hope you get a chance to post more after school is out. We could use some Mainteance poster.
That's great that several of your co-workers had surgery! When school starts up again in the fall no ones going to recognize them!! School Clothes Shopping.....YEAH!
