Bounce Back Is Real

I understand.  I don't NEED to gain any but have seemed to be going up some.  I know my eating has changed but I didn't think it was enough to add the extra pounds that were creeping on.  So now I am on vacation, no scale and certainly eating differently.  I guess I will see what happens when I get home on Sunday.  I think, at least for me, there is a very fine line between losing and gaining.  Except that the gaining seems much easier now than the losing does.  It seems now I can't just go back to eating on program and lose the pounds that jumped on after a bad weekend like I could a month ago.  At least now I can exercise more and hopefully that will help, especially this week.  Yep, tracking, logging, exercising, back on track at home and doing the best I can while traveling.

Price, my line between losing and gaining is very very thin.  I have a two pound range that I am comfortable with.  The two pounds allow me a bit of room for an occasional treat, a bit more eating out etc, but if I don't pay close attention, that two pound range is three.  I really pull it all back in if I see that three.  It hasn't happened much, but I know it could, oh so easily. Vacation is a tough time for me.  In the past it was a time to throw my food plan to the wind and eat everything in sight.  I'm trying to tame that part of me and learn to eat my healthy food plan regardless of where I am.  Why is it so dang hard?  :)

Tazz - yes, you probably are absorbing more of what you eat.  First I'd look at the fats - as it seems that's what I re-absorbed first.   (but really, who can tell?)  :)

That to me was the hardest part of maintenance.  It seemed one day I was eating normal and NOT gain, the next I was up 3 lbs and it didn't seem like it was going to stop.  It was like a switch flipped.  Unfortunately during all our meetings pre-surgery - they didn't tell us about this and one day we had our "wake up" call.

I totally get where you're at.  As long as you're still in your comfort zone you're ok - but I think its great you're starting to track your food again as that may show you where the extras are.

Yeah, bounce back is real but not a huge deal. For me, I got super thin- like size 2 thin & I'm 6 feet tall. My face was a little sunken, big circles under my eyes & a very pronounced sternum & rib cage. I put back on about 17lbs, only about 2 sizes & I look much, much better. Still a healthy BMI & I can run miles with ease & without passing out.
As long as a bounce back doesnt turn into a reason to consider revision, it's not bad. It's just your body resetting itself.
It was hard for me to get over the number on the scale, but I did. And my surgeon, who I see once a year, is very happy with my numbers.

I am getting a bit concerned.  I went back to the doctor's today because my headache seems to be getting worse.  I was there last Tuesday and from Tuesday to today it showed me gaining 3 lbs!  That doesn't seem right.  Same scale and everything.  I would have had to eat 10500 more calories then I burned to gain 3 lbs.  I am pretty sure I didn't eat more then 11000 or 12000 calories in the last week.
The other thing that is strange is that this gain started about 10 days ago, which is also when I started getting this headache.
I wasn't happy with the doctor today.  She felt around my neck and told me I had scoliosis and probably had it since I was a child and that is why I had a headache.  I would think that I have had scoliosis all my life someone would have noticed.  And why would it start so suddenly, out of no where?  I'm sorry but I just don't buy it.  She wants me to go to physical therapy.  I went last week and he said it was due to my posture.
I told her I wanted a second opinion because it just didn't sound right, especially without even running any tests.  I have an appointment on Wednesday with my PCP so I will talk to her about it and see if she agrees.
All I know is that I am in severe pain and have been for over a week and I am pretty sure it isn't because I have mild scoliosis.

first off scoliosis cant' be diagnosed without looking at naked spine or by taking an x-ray and has absolutely nothing to do with the neck - it is the lower or thorasaic spine not cervical spine.  It is a curve of your spine, what does that have to do with your neck?
Dont stress over 3 pounds  - it can be what you ate for breakfast or last night - it can be waterweight - salt.  We can fluctuate 2 or 3 pounds from 1 day to the next which is why they say  not to weigh daily.  And like the others said, if you need to gain some weight back - dont worry about it - your body needs it.  I have over the past few months where I would gain 5 pounds in one week and then nothing in 2 weeks eathing the same things.  It is just our bodies leveling out.  I have been basically the same thing for about 2 months now and I litterly eat an enourmous amount of calories per day. I do watch carefully because I dont want to gain more but I dont want to lose either so I have to watch carefully - if I eat anyless I will go back to losing.  Malabsorbing is no fun.  Thankfully I can eat carbs or I would be a bean pole

I do understand your posture issue though.  I wrote in a previous post about my experience with my posture and excrutitating neck pain with the actual jolts of pain down my arms, spine and loss of feeling and use of my right arm and when I stopped sitting at my computer desk and changed my posture of my neck - it all went away.  I now use a laptop in my bed and my neck is in a totally differnt positon.

I just spoke to a friend today and she recently rearranged her desk at work.  Some how the way she she uses her computer and her mouse is different - the length that she holds out her arm, and I guess it puts  a different pressure on her neck but she was losing feelign in her arm and the pain in her neck was excrutiating - she went to the doctor and had a MRI also and they told her the same thing - it was positional and she should go to PT.

These computers are really killing us.

That can be causing your neck pain but I doubt the headache unless it is at the base of the skull at the upper neck whick is all connected to this.

If you are really concerned about headaches - ask to see a neurologist - they specialize in headaches and can also check out the neck pain if anything nerve related

Thanks, the headaches are coming from my neck.  They start at the base of my neck and go up to the top of my head.
I have asked to see a neurologist.  My PCP wants to send me to a pain clinic.  I have an appointment to see her this Wednesday and we'll talk more about it.
I agree with what you said about scoliosis.  It didn't make sense that I could be diagnosed like that without an x ray or something.
The only reason I am stressing is because for the last 20 months my weight loss and maintenance has been very predictable and unwavering.  I don't think I ever had any big jumps in my weight from one day to the next.  I have been eating pretty much the same every day, too, so that is why I was concerned about the large gain in a short period of time.  Since Sept I have basically stayed in a 3 lbs range, never going above or below it, so the sudden gain with no change in my intake has me baffled.  I guess it's just a new trick of my body.  My clothes are fitting pretty much the same.  One of these days I am going to stop weighing myself daily and just go by my weekly weight.  Not quite there yet but I am working on it.
In the past when I was maintaining a normal weight I don't even think I had a scale.  I never even worried about gaining because my diet was so consistent.  When I started regaining I knew exactly why and expected it because I was eating badly.  This is just a change.  I know I am not eating the number of calories I would require to gain that much weight.  I guess I am just afraid of my body turning on me and gaining uncontrollably even with reasonable eating.

I understand your worries Tazz.  It's really scarey to start gaining even if you welcome it.

Most of you know that my menus are very boring and very predictable but I still had some bounce back and had to put my 2's away and buy 4's.  It didn't happen until I was a couple years and it seemed to happen overnight out.  It definitely was a reality check that the honeymoon period was over.

Glad to hear that you are going  to track.  I track mine about once a month just to remind me of my totals and so far I'm still eating within the range I have set for myself.

I hope they find out why you are having headaches.  My head has been killing me but I know I need to go to my chiropractor.  The only problem is he is in FL until the end of April so I've just been dealing with it. I'm usually one of his first appointments when he comes home in the spring and the last one in the fall.

Thanks, Roz.  Gaining is scary even when you want it.  Just seeing those numbers go up instead of watching them go down for so long.  It did happen over night.  I kept my 2s and 4s so I'm good there.  If I go over 4 I will have to buy more clothes so I hope I don't go over that.
A chiropractor would be great but my insurance won't cover it.  I hope you feel better soon, too

I should start feeling better in about a month...LOL  I just won't go to another chiropractor.  They always insist on adjusting your whole body and my problem is only in my neck.  My Dr. knows just what to do.
