Stalled, stalling and stalled.

ERRRRRRRRR

I am so fustrated.  I have calculated my calories at about 1000 a day.  My BMR is 1480 calories a day x 1.35 of activities = 2039 calories.  So, I should be losing about 2 1/2 lbs a week even if I didn't have this surgery.  Keeping it low carb but not doing a no carb because a no carb diet has never worked for me.  I know, I know everybody hits a stall but I really want to lose 23 more pounds,  (I am 73lbs down of the 80 lbs that I needed to lose). I just didn't think it would happen to me and yes, I know that I am 5 1/2 months out.

I am just venting.  Wondering when did everybody hit a stall and how long was it?  Did they change a behavior to see the scale move again?

2039 calories sounds like a lot for your base metabolism, so I wouldn't put a lot of emphasis on that as a target. There are many things that affect base metabolism,  losing weight and a history of obesity will often make that number lower. In addition, since you have lost weight, you may have less % of muschle mass, which will make the BMR lower.    Look at all of the folks on maintenance on Roz's menus and miles - they don't get near 2000 calories a day to maintain.

My one suggestion - do you get really good exercise?  Although I need to stop losing, I'm at 7 1/2 months out, and still dropping a pound a week or so.  I typically exercise for 1.5 hour 3 times a week.  I'm concentrating on upping my protein, but due to restriction, 1000 calories is a big day for me.

I hope these insights help.

Vent away if it makes you feel better.  I can't imagine that you are done losing at 5.5 months, but around that time, I slowed way down.  I never did really stall, just slowed.  I changed how I was eating but not the number of calories.  I went to 30 carbs a day and 120 at least of protein and started losing again.  I kept that us and continued losing until I was done and I was way past where I ever thought I would be.

Try posting on miles and menus.  there are a lot of vets who post and read and maybe they will have some suggestions to help.  In the mean while, keep on keeping on.  It will happen for you too.

I hit my first stall at 3 weeks post op.  I hit a stall about every 4 weeks.  I was 54 and a post menopausal female when I had my surgery.  Because I knew my loss would be slower than others I made a decision that, I believe, made all the difference in my WL journey.  I chose to not buy a scale or weigh myself often.  I tried to weigh every 3 to 4 weeks.  I did not want to eal with the emotional ups and downs of watching the scale go up and down or not move at all.  You still have plenty of optimum losing time left.  You have done great at 5.5 months.

By weighing every 3 or 4 weeks, I did not have to deal with my stalls.  If I weighed, then 3 or 4 weeks later weighed again and was only down 1 pound or so...I knew I had been on a stall that was most likely now over.  I felt good about the 1 pound loss and knew the next time I weighed I woudl probably be down more than expected.  Once the first couple months passed, I lost 8 to ten pounds per month...give or take.

At 4 months I hit a big stall. I think it was about a month or so that I was playing with the same 1/2 pound.
You're not done. Just be patient, and put the scale away for 2 weeks. It's tough, but don't let it affect your self esteem.

I was at the same place as you with my D.S., stalled out at 5-6 months. changed my eating to raise protein to 120g/day, lowered carbs to 20-30, drank more plain water- at least 32oz of the suggested 64oz. Added buttered popcorn , 1/2 a fresh apple, and steamed green beans along with each protein meal. The fiber really helped. Sometimes I had a cup of no carb ice cream. I happened to be at the doctors weekly for a few weeks. all of a sudden, they found I had lost 6 lbs in one week. I was so surprised. I have lost  a total of 110 lbs in 7 months, 20 left to go to my goal. Hypothyroid, hysterectomy, and knee /hip arthritis have kept my losses slow. I do exercise at the gym several hours a week- weight machines, fast walking treadmill, stretching. The fast walking was suggested by my trainer as the only way to lose weight, other than running, which I cant do with my knees. change around your diet and increase water, and exercise.
