Full liquids help

Nothing I can manage sipping, it has to go thru a syringe at the moment. Already "drinking" protein shakes, beef or chicken broth, water, and cranberry juice, diluted to half strength.

I had jaw surgery yesterday for hypoxia/sleep apnea and can't feel my lips plus they are super swollen (invision a very bad Botox lip job). The only safe way for me to drink anything is using a syringe, not a straw. The syringe allows me to actually get it in my mouth.

Any other suggestions?

I am getting in enough liquids...about 70-100 oz and about 80 grams of protein shake today. I know that isn't enough but with the beef broth, I think I got to 100.

I was told the swelling would start to go down in a week. Because I am not wired shut, he just used rubber bands (braces type) as soon as the swelling allows soft foods,I will add those.

Sounds like you are doing a great job  Liz. I hope you dont have alot of pain.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe something like Isopure, or start looking up some shake recipes to help with variety for the week.

Tried cream soup at the hospital, didn't go thru the syringe very well...got all clogged up.

Thinking those for the second stage when I actually can find my mouth with a spoon or the edge of a cup.

Thanks.

Liz

No,I wouldn't go thru unless you thinned it WAY WAY down. That is what I was thinking...

When my son was really little he got thrush and could only drink liquids I would melt some jello in the microwave for him.  Dr. Said it was protein and my son liked it.  Not sure how good it is for you but it may help with the variety

I would be wanting something other than sweet.  Maybe V8 and second the creamed soups.  Good luck.  Hope this all works.

I like the Unjury chicken soup powder.  It tastes like chicken boullion with 20 grams of protein per scoop.  Also the Isopure smoothies are expensive, but good tasting pre-made shakes at 32 grams of protein.  The flavors are orange mango, berry pomegranate etc.

Liz,

I don't have any suggestions.  I'm sorry to hear that it took surgery to help your sleep issue.  I hope your healing goes well.  I'll swing critters for ya.
