WTF Liver Enzymes Are Up Again
I just had my liver panel done and they have gone up since the last time. I thought it was the Vitamin A that was doing it because they dropped significantly after I stopped taking it but they are up again, not as bad as before but still high.
I had the ultrasound, which was normal and a liver biopsy, which wasn't bad, showed minimal non specific portal inflammation, which didn't concern my pcp. I have an appointment with the liver specialist on the 2nd of April so I guess I'll see what he thinks.

I hope the specialists can figure out what is going on. Mine have been out of whack too. I finally got to come off my cholesterol medicine for a while and they went down some. I'll get them checked again in June. I had the ultra sound. Lots of blood work for all kinds of diseases - all normal.
Let me know what the specialists tells you - I am very interested in it. Good luck.

the increase from 43 to 61 isn't that bad. the increase from 99 to 116, isnt' a significant increase althought the number is higher than you want it to be.
I just looked up some information on AST/ALT ratios and it said when the ratio is greater than 1 with patients with alcoholic cirrhosic, liver congestion and metastatic tumor of the liver. Ratios less than 1 may be seen in in patients with acute hepatitis, viral hepatitis, or infectious mononucleiousis. the ratio is less than accurate if the AST exceeds 10 more than normal.
You fit in the category of hepatitis or mononucleosis - often hepatitis is a complication of mono.
Drugs that can increase liver enzynes are: blood pressure medications,, cholinergic agents, , coumarin type anti coagulants, isoniazid, methyldopa, oral contraceptives, opiates, salicylates, statins and verapamil = they dont' list PPI's but I know they should be included.
You should be glad that you are down from the 224, but if you are taking any of those meds you will have fluctuations.''
I know my levels go from 30 to 70 then back to 40 to 60 - I know my numbers arn't like yours but they do keep going up and down. I know it is from the PPI;s and the tylenol in my percocets I take.
I would be interested to see what the liver specialist says.
good luck and keep us posted
