So I just ate two slices of pizza and I am on my pre op diet of just protein shakes and one meal. I also had a lean cuisine and a veggie patty. HELP I am so hungry! If I could eat like this, I wouldn't need WLS!! I feel so guilty....do you think I will be OK for surgery on Friday still? Should I tell my doctors office?

Honestly.... I ate like I always ate until the day before my surgery. I probably realistically shouldn't tell you that. But I was eating fast food and jun****il Friday and my surgery was on a Monday. There were no complications and my surgeon said nothing. I'm NOT encouraging you to do this, AT ALL. But don't feel guilty... if we could eat like how they expected us to, we wouldn't need WLS in the first place!!

No problem. Many of us didn't have to do pre-op diets at all. My surgeon made me laugh when I asked if I would have to do a 2 week long pre-op diet to shrink my liver. He said if a bariatric surgeon can't find his way around a lightweight's gut, he has no business being a surgeon. I ate several "last suppers" prior to surgery and enjoyed every one.

Ok, it is done and over.  No need to feel guilty about it cause you can't change it.

HOWEVER, you are going to have to make serious changes in the way you eat after surgery.  I think part of the pre-op diet for lightweights is to start the changes in how we eat, not just to shrink your liver.  I was very glad AFTERWARDS, NOT DURING, my preop diet which was like yours, that I had given up sodas, caffiene and carbs because I didn't crave them once I had surgery.  Yes, surgery is going to be a great tool so that you aren't so hungry and will be able to make better choices but you have to do you part.  You have to comply with the post op diet plan and stay on program for it to work.  It is doable, and you can do it.  Just move forward and you will be fine.  None of that is going to kill you or change how your surgery goes.  Good luck on Friday.

I ate several "last suppers" in the days leading up to my surgery. I had a huge meal for lunch the day before. My surgeon didn't require a pre-op diet. He said it "would be nice" if I could drop a few pounds before surgery to shrink my liver, but he didn't seem to have a problem working around it when he got in there.

Don't tell. Many doctors don't require it. He won't know the difference.

I agree with Price.  A big part of suceeding in this is your mindset.  I had a 2 week liquids-only pre-op diet and hated every day of it, but afterwards I saw the wisdom in it.  Not only did I not have  any caffeine withdrawal, I was ready mentally for the changes that had to come.  Still, I will confess to one spoonful of creamy peanut butter a few days before surgery out of the sheer disperation for something with taste!

I wouldn't worry.  What's done is done.  I mostly stuck to the two week liquid diet (killer) before surgery but wasn't perfect.  My surgeon didn't say a thing.  Have only heard of one case where the surgeon almost cancelled the surgery because the patient didn't comply at all.  But that patient was definitely NOT a lightweight and in the end the surgeon still did the operation.

Yeah--your day is almost here!!

Guilt can't be a part of WLS.  You did it now so move on.

Just my opinion....Stick with plan Wed. and Thurs.

(((HUGS))) and Prayers for Friday!

Thanks for the reassurance and advice everyone!

I did let my nutritionist know this morning, she also had good advice for me. I get that I have to make changes - I have already cut out all caffeine as of 3 weeks ago, alcohol, and carbs. It will be so much easier when my stomach is the size of a banana instead of a football!

I am on track today and will be 100% on clear liquids for Wed and Thurs, no cheating for sure. You all are wonderful and I heard you all very clearly in terms of making these changes and sticking to them...

Make room on the loser's bench, I'll see you there in a few days!

Totally not a big deal. What they are looking for is for you not to gain any weight prior to surgery.

Also it's really unnecessary to point out that you will need to make "MAJOR" changes to your diet after surgery. Like.. duh. You have no choice in the matter. Don't worry, the first time you get something stuck and are making promises to God while you puke over your kitchen sink, you'll realize what you can & can't get away with.

Good luck on Friday!! And ditch the guilt. You have other things to think about.
