Would you do it again?
I would do it again. I can't say I would do it sooner because I think it came along at the right time when I could afford to spend the money for the post op things that I need to keep me successful and to spend the time focusing on just me and not everyone else in my family.
It was one of my better decisions and I am very happy with it. I did do 6 months of counseling before I had surgery. It was a requirement for my insurance or six months of support meetings. I chose the counseling because I knew I probably needed it.

I'm going to answer your question with a question. Why are you asking this? What are you trying to find out?
I ask because I never found these sorts of threads helpful back when I was researching WLS. That's because they always tend to go the same way. You get 99% of the people saying "Yes!" or "My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner!" and once in a blue moon you get someone who has complications or other problems saying No. (But often even the ones with problems still say Yes!"
But I never found that helpful. It was reassuring but in a vague way. I could see not everyone was successful and some people had big problems and these threads didn't really help me figure out if I was going to be one of them.
What was helpful was to hang out on the boards where people with the type of surgery I was going to have hung out and see what life was like for them on a day-to-day basis. By doing that, I realized that it would be a mistake for me to get a band (my first choice) and that the sleeve was the right surgery for me.
But I never would have figured that out asking people if they'd do it again. Because that question got asked prettty much every week on my band board and everyone always said "Yes!" And then 6 months later they were revising to another surgery and no longer around to say "no".
Another helpful thing for me was to look at the revisions and regrets boards here. It showed me patterns in who had regrets and why people needed revisions. Those patterns showed me what the pitfalls were and whether or not they applied to me. I found that very helpful in deciding whether or not to "pull the trigger".

I'm not the one who asked the question, but for my part, this is a good starting-point type thread to look at what surgeries people chiming in on the lightweight question have had. I'd only been looking at the RNY, mostly because it's presented as the most effective, but the vertical sleeve was suggested in another forum post I made, and I'm now looking into it. There are a lot of posts here to digest, and getting people's opinions about the surgery they had is beneficial. Just "Yes!" as a response doesn't help so much, but the thoughtful answers about what the journey has meant to people does, whether the short answer is "yes" or "no".
I don't think it's really the answer to the question that the thread-starter wants - what they're looking for is "can you provide a short summary of what you think of your weight loss surgery?" On a message board, each thread contains the comments of each person on a given day, and any of these threads are just snapshots. I think it's reasonable to say "hey, can I have your snapshot for today?"

I would do it again - I wish my head had been in the right place for me to do it earlier, but it wasn't. I'm glad I waited until I was able to do what I needed to make this a healthy process.
