Rebound question

Happy St Patrick's Day!

I am pretty happy with the weight I'm at now, but thought I would lose about 5-10# more for rebound. I don't want to lose too much cuz of the loose skin.

My question is does everyone automatically gain back 5-10%? Is the percentage of body weight or amount of weight lost?

Thanks!

Sorry I didn't read other recent post untill after I posted this because I'm on my phone.

Thx!

The surgeons in my kaiser group say the following.

Some might rebound up to 5 pounds. Anymore than that has nothing to do with the sleeve and everything to do with our choices of what to put into it. They think the first 5 is unnecessary if we eat protein first and don't eat recreationally.

They also say that if we can get through months 18-24 with no regain, we have a better shot at lifetime maintenance. The way that I interpret this is that we have shown that we learned our new healthy habits during the first two years.

I go to Weigh****chers even though I weigh daily at home, just for addition accountability.

At two years out I have a two pound range. 141-143. I go up and down based on sodium. If I see 143.2 I pull back on carbs and add protein. This morning 141.8 after vacationing for three days. I will still be careful on the corned beef this week because of the sodium.

Really good info. I like what your clinic says about regain, and I totally agree.

I am just now at 18 months. I seem to be staying, from Sept to now, between 111, I think I actually saw 110 once morning, to 115. I was 117 after last weekend, yikes but am now back to 114. I plan on doing like Lee and when I see something over 115, cut carbs, up protein, immediately until I am back to 113-114. I'm not real happy at 110-111 but really don't want to go over 115. Well see what happens next week going to Fla for 10 days. I have given myself more latatude when I am traveling but 2 days last weekend took me up 4 lbs, OMG. it was a good wake-up that I had to be more careful. It's a journey and I hope I keep learning.

I am at 18.5 months out and have been maintaining within a 2 lb range (108-110.5) since last April. Today, I am at the higher range and attribute this to not exercising as much last week and of course, more calories.

I allow myself this two pound window, because if it goes higher, I know that it will be more difficult to rein in.

The bariatric internist in my program said that 5 lbs rebound is very common, but anything more is due to increased eating and calories. She also said that sometimes, people may drop too low and bounce back a few pounds to a more comfortable weight

I think 5% rebound may be acceptable, but 10% regain is excessive and may be more common with the malabsorptive surgeries. JMHO.

I think most (but not all) people rebound and that the reasons vary and so does the poundage.

I do think enough people rebound that it's better to go a bit low, than to be absolutely sure that YOU will not rebound and then be surprised and unhappy when it happens. OTOH, it's not worth driving yourself crazy to do so.

I maiantained nicely for 2.5 years. Then I had regain of 15 pounds. Not because of my tool. I quit running and started eating more and more calories and carbs. It isn't a mystery. If I had kept running and controlling my intake, I don't think I would have had any regain.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I will keep doing what I'm doing (maybe better than I did today however!), and keep within 2 pounds of my goal.

Lee, I am in Weigh****chers too! This week I will be Lifetime!!!

I am so excited. I did it for the support and accountability.

Hi!

Thanks! I weighed in today and am "officially" Lifetime. I am so excited. I joined there when I was in elementary school in the 1960's - so it has been a long time. I also lowered by original goal to 142# today from 146#. So I am more than happy!!!
