I tried to get DH to plant something(we have 9 acres) and he said "No".  He told me to tell our son what I wanted and maybe he would plant it for me.  DS loves to plant a garden so I guess I'll tell him what I would like to have.  He had some of the best collards this year.

Deer would eat most of ours anyway unless we put it real close to the house and put fence and things around it.

My garden is close to the house and the dogs help with the deer problem.  But the best help is the apple trees.  They love the apples better than any of my garden plants.

I would love to have a few greens, herbs, tomatoes (although tomatoes can't be planted until after mothers day). Everytime we try to plant our dogs (labradors) and rabbits pick it clean. While I am glad that our dogs like to eat their greens, I don't like putting all that work into food for me that they eat. They think green tomatoes are tennis balls. lol

I'm going to try a "salsa" barrel --- with tomatoes and peppers and onions. We shall see! So far my thumb has not been very green... I'm also going to try a couple strawberry plants in another.

Just use a lot of peat in your barrel and put it where it gets good sun and you should have more than you can eat.  Good luck.
