Getting to know you

My gas issues are horrendous, too.  I don't think I realized how bad it would be but I still wouldn't change a thing.  And the air freshener companies are making a mint off of me!  Maybe I should get stock in them? LOL

Wow, I am so glad to hear from all of you. I had to laugh about the piles of paper being left all over the house by a DH. Mine does that too but after so long I just grin and bear it most of the time.

I forgot to say what I liked least about living in Blue Springs. I think it is two things. The fact that it is a 40 minutes drive in good traffic to work. With bad weather or traffic it might be an hour. The other thing is we really don't have lots of shopping and no cultural anything. What I like best is the smaller town feel and friendly people.

I hope many more of you respond. I love hearing about each of you.

1. Where do you live? What do you like best about where you live and what do you like worst.
I live north of Columbus, OH. Love my neighborhood. Hate the commute to work - - too much time in the car each day.

2. Tell me a little bit about your family. Married, 6 year old DD, 13 year old dog with bad bladder habits, failing vision and hearing. Life is interesting in our household! Just got the girl potty trained and out of diapers and then the dog needed them!

3. What have been your biggest challenges since you started your journey? Getting my schedule down -- when to drink, getting protein in, calcium. Exercising.

4. What have been your biggest reward or aha moments?
Realizing (just last week) I entered info wrong in the bmi calculator and I am no longer obese! I thought I was a 40 and I'm a 29. Woo hooo... Also shopping for non-plus clothes -- in thrift stores sooooo... fun to find brand new clothes and pay $3!!!

Hi Cheryl!  I'll play!

1. Where do you live? What do you like best about where you live and what do you like worst.

Well - I just moved to Northern VA from Northern MI.  I definitely like the weather better, but like Gina says, the traffic is horrendous.  My commute (because of my own doing) is 35 mins on a good day - but if I take the scenic route can be an hour.

2. Tell me a little bit about your family.  I have 2 kids - a DD that is married and I have a wonderful Granddaughter by - and who is royal pissed because I moved here and not by her.  My son is a Flight Instructor at a private school in Houston TX.  He's still a Mommas boy and calls me a lot.

3. What have been your biggest challenges since you started your journey?  I was lucky and didn't have any medical problems.  But- my biggest problem is Maintenance.  I find myself sliding into old habits.  My exercise is almost nonexistent - but I just joined a Meetup Group that is a Bootcamp - need to kick my rear in gear and lose these 10-15 lbs I've put back on.

4. What have been your biggest reward or aha moments?  Oh - I've had many over the years.  Sitting in airplance seats and being able to reach my stuff under the seat in front of me without dying.  Clothes shopping - I really went overboard and had to reel myself in.  Crossing my legs.. which I noticed today wasn't as easy as it used to be - ugh!

I live in Israel in a small city up North.
People from many country but I hang with Anglos.
I work hard at vitamins and protein and liquids. However I refuse to ever feel emotionally deprived as food is a comfort but not the only comfort. I focus on my better eating and make conscious choices on what when how to eat. I still use protein powder much to the chagrin of the Nut or my GP.
Unfortunately I do not exercise but if I am out and about I will walk and I do not huff and puff but continue walking albeit slowly.
I have bought smaller skirts but being short and still fat (but not FAT) people see the fat that is there and not what is left!
I have had Abdominoplasty (with some complications) and am waiting for HMO approval for mastopexy. I wish I could have my owner thighs done but that seems to be a dream in a virtual reality.

Where do you live?  I live right outside Salt Lake City, UT.  We moved here 4 years ago.  We are not Mormon and this a Mormon driven society.  It took some getting used to, but we are happy here now.  BTW, if you live in Utah and your neighbors invite you for dinner, a bottle of wine might not be the best hostess gift!

My family?  I am married to the love of my life and my best friend.  We have been together for about 15 yrs.  we are one of those sickening couples that are still google eyed for each other after all this time!  We have 6 kids.  3 his - 3 mine.  I am close to 4 of them.  They are all grown up and either live with the other parent or have their own homes.  I have one DGS and another coming in June!

My biggest challenge?  changing my eating habits!  I tend to push the envelope when incorporating new foods.  My pouch is a little sensitive so I am struggling.  I will learn and adapt.  It's just hard and I'm on the up side of the learning curve.

My biggest reward?  Seeing all the people I know genuinely pulling for me.  People stop by my little area at work everyday just to see how I am doing and congratulate me on my weight loss.  (I think my coworkers are getting tired of it, but it won't last forever).   My aha moment?  Realizing that my weight never really held me back, my own personal perception of myself did.

To help me get to know you better would you post a few things about yourself?
1. Where do you live? What do you like best about where you live and what do you like worst.
Living in eastern Tennessee in the mountains. We always wanted to retire to the TN mountains. I was born here, mountains are in my blood. We get all four seasons altho this winter has been so mild compared to others. The fall folage is unbelievable. What I don't like is being 4 hours away from family...yes, we could move but which direction? One direction is my daddy, the other is my stepdaughter's and our soon to be grandchildren.

2. Tell me a little bit about your family.
My husband and I met online thru match.com at a time when it was free to join. We married 9 months to the day after we first met online. We were a yours and mine marriage...he has two daughters, one lived with us most of her growing up years, the other chose to remain at her grandmother's. I had the furbabies. We've been married over 15 years..

3. What have been your biggest challenges since you started your journey?
Getting all my protein in...the budget is busted, we live on a fixed income and gas is taking a bigger and bigger portion of the slice. More than it's fair share...

4. What have been your biggest reward or aha moments?
Biggest NSV...being called skinny in the grocery store. Being able to wrap a towel all the way around me with NO gap.

I'd forgotten how amazing the towel NSV felt the first time I could wrap a regular size towel around me.  Thanks for bringing a smile to my face.

1. Where do you live? What do you like best about where you live and what do you like worst.
I live in San Antonio Texas.  I love the weather, the people, the culture, the food.  It is a great place to live.  The worst part about San Antonio are allergies.  It is allergy season all year.  It is the one thing that will get me to move away.  The Air Force moved us here.  We decided to make San Antonio home because it is such a good fit for our lifestyle.

2. Tell me a little bit about your family.
Like Liz, we have a yours and mine family ... He has a son and a daughter and I have two boys.  The boys all lived with us when they were growing up.  We have 10, yes, t-e-n, grandchildren, 4 girls & six boys. We will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary in September.  Not too shabby for a second marriage.  Like Tonya, we are still google-eyed for each other after all these years.

3. What have been your biggest challenges since you started your journey?
I haven't reached my "goal" weight.  I have moments of regret where I feel like I need to push through, but mostly I'm happy with myself the way I am.  I travel quite a bit for work.  Staying on track while traveling has been hard.  There is so much peer pressure -- company meals with appetizers, wine, dessert.  I'm still figuring it all out.

4. What have been your biggest reward or aha moments?
My biggest reward is having my health back.  DH commented this morning about how well I was getting around.  He said two years ago I wasn't like this.  We was right.  Neither one of us acknowledged it at the time, but my weight was hampering my mobility and my participation in life. This journey was all about getting healthy when it started.  The bonus is my new body and clothes.  I'm really enjoying trying different things with my clothes.  Fall and Winter have been fun with the layers.  Summer in San Antonio will call for new dresses and capris.  I'm not afraid of seats anymore (plane seats, restaurant seats, movie seats, theater seats, etc...).  I sometimes forget that I fit comfortably and no longer need overflow room.

1. Where do you live? What do you like best about where you live and what do you like worst?
I live in a small rural town outside of Jacksonville, Florida.  I love it.  The schools are great !!  I don't like the commute into the big city for work.
2. Tell me a little bit about your family.
I have been married for 12 1/2 years to an amazing man.  He is so sweet !  He is such a good DH and DF.  We have 2 boys, 8 y/o and 3 y/o.  We are undecided about having more children.  We have 2 chihuahua fur babies :)  I am so encouraged to see that so many of you have been married so long :)
3. What have been your biggest challenges since you started your journey?
The biggest challenge for me has been a stricture.  I can't tolerate most foods :(  I live off of liquids and soft foods :(
4. What have been your biggest reward or aha moments?
Where do I start, there have been so many......I can cross my legs, shop at a regular store (I just discovered the thrift stores, so much fun !!), I can walk stairs without becoming winded, I like to exercise.

So excited to be on this journey with you all :)
