Help with acronyms??

Ok, this may sound dumb, but could you list the acronyms used on this board and what they mean?  Like I see DH and realize H is for husband, but what is the D?  And if D is for daughter what is DD?  I see so many that, I am not quite sure of.  Oh, and one more thing what is with the swings of critters?

Thanks

I am not the best at this but I think DD...means dear daughter, etc.

swinging of critters is something i will let an old timer explain the origin of but it is our
version of praying/sending good thoughts....

I still have to think when some of them come up, like DGD2 and DBIL.  I just think it is all family and that is enough.

Welcome and feel free to ask whatever, whenever.  Someone may have an answer.

Definitely not dumb.  The question comes up periodically and I remember when I asked the same questions.
Swinging  critters is a way of sending prayers or special thoughts without offending anyone's religious beliefs.  I believe it comes from an old, possibly Jewish, expression which was "swinging chickens."  Most of us used "swinging lizards" but then we all got kind of silly and started swinging whatever critters we wanted!
I for one have swung geckos and my dog Phantom.  (He's my avatar)

Ask questions.  There is always someone else who wants to know the same thing!

I'm probably the most radical "swinger" on here - I frequently catch the kindergarteners to swing, and if it's something really big, I've been known to chase down a 5th grader!

At home, the cats don't let me swing them anymore.

Ok, you guys are lucky. When I first came to this board the "old-timers" gave me a research assignment. They told me to google it. I came up with the old Jewish swinging chickens. At the time there was a regular on the board that was from, I think, Nevada. She started swinging the lizards. Shortly after the other animals started swinging and going into hover mode. I kind of enjoy having something that is special and unique to this board.

I asked the same question when I first joined OH, and I still don't know what many mean.
