Trip to Emergency Room, Questions

I had my RNY surgery 5 1/2 months ago.  I ended up in the emergency room this past week from pain in my midsection.  For a couple of weeks I have been very sensitive and don't want anything around my waist ie. elastic from panties, pj's or pants.  The severe pain that brought me to my knees happened 3 hours after dinner which was a couple ounces of pork chop. I I have had pork chops several times with no problems, but this time it threw me for a loop.  I tried to make myself throw up to see if that would help the pain but nothing would come back up.  I took the Papaya tablets and no releif.  So 2 hours after the pain not easing up I went to the ER.  I was given morophine for pain and they took a CATscan tand blood work o find nothing.  The doctor said that there were no leaks or obstructions.  I am suppose to follow-up with a specialist next week.  I have not had that kind of pain before.  Just curious if anyone has had similar issues or your thoughts on my pain etc..  BTW, the emergency room doctor did say it could be an ulcer.  Seriously?  Could it cause that much pain?  Your thoughts please?

I've heard of people having telescoping intestines or kinks in the intestines, and nothing shows up on the CT scan unless they can catch it right when it's happening. I sure hope they can figure it out or you have no more issues. :(

I have not had either, but I sure hope they can figure out what is causing this and get you fixed up.
I have heard of the items that Gina mentioned.  I think I have even read somewhere that an obstruction does not always show up on a CAT scan.  Sometimes they have to do exploratory to see it.

I think you need to talk to your WLS Surgeon and see what his opinion is.  I had severe pain but it was higher than my waistline.  I was out of town and our flight was cancelled so we went to a hotel room and the pain was so bad that I honestly thought I was going to die but I didn't want to go to a hospital in another state and my family being stuck there.

When I got home they ran a few tests but didn't find anything and about 4 months later it happened again and they took out my gall bladder.  Since I still get twinges of pain occassionally after I eat I'm not sure the gall bladder was the problem but then again I haven't had any "I'm going to die" pain either.

(((HUGS)))  I hope you don't have another episode.

I agree that it would be a good idea to follow up with your surgeon.

Hope you find the Problem or better yet I hope you don't have this problem again

So sorry you are going through, please keep in touch with the doc.

Ulcers or obstructions need attention.

Yes, do follow up with your surgeon. The most common cause of abdominal pain at your point post op is gall bladder. If it was a GB spasm they might not see it on a CT at the time it happened. Happening after eating is also typical. I didn't look at your total weight loss. My surgeon said the bowel obstructions caused by hernias usually occurs after about 80 pounds lost. But to your answer can an ulcer cause that much pain the answer is yes. I have had pain severe enough twice now that has sent me to the ER. In order to say the pain is probably from my ulcer they want to rule out the surgical emergency possibilities. I had an ulcer diagnosed about September that I have been unable to heal. From the reading I have done marginal ulcers like I have tend to be a later complication that 6 months however.
I hope you never have that again and that they are able to discover what it is.
