Good Morning. Staying up-to-date
You know how we sort of shake our collective heads when some really old timer WLS patient chimes in on a thread and tells you to take your Flintstones? Their information is woefully out-of-date. Well, I'm finding that I'm out-of-date for my job. I know all the history and am a good subject matter expert on some things but I need training to keep up with the kids and their new skills. I'm going to have to take classes and read text books and practice new computer techniques....scared spitless! lol
This all will start not later than next month, so if I'm scarce around here, you'll know what's going on.
Swing lizards for me, 'cause I'm going to need them.
What do you have going on this wonderful weekend's eve?

I know the feeling Gina. We just got a new type of technology for my job. Its the only one in Utah. Luckily I have had some exposure to it at another job. However, I am far from SME. That makes me uncomfortable. We had official training but it happened when I was sick last month so I am learning as I go. That is hard on the ego. I have been a nuc tech for 25 yrs and these kids right out of school that were there for the training have to teach me. It's going okay. Bless them; they are gentle with me. It's funny because when I went to school my instructors said that we would never be able to use this type of technology because it of the radioactive components. Well, it's been available for awhile now. I think only about 200K facilities in the US have it though. It's called Rubidium PET/CT if anyone cares to google it.
Anywho, Gina, if I can do it so can you! I have faith in you. You are a SME in all things DS and WLS and you were essentially self taught. At least you get textbooks this time!

I tnotally understand, Gina. In my new job I'm having to learn a huge amount of new info and all the uo to date advances in high risk obstetrics. I live with the textbooks and ask lots of questions. Finally, just this week, it's all started to click and I'm starting to enjoy lit.
I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.

I'm a nurse midwife who's retired from delivering babies. I work in a teaching hospital. 3 days a week I see patients on the high risk OB clinic and the rest of the time I work with the physicians coordinating the care of the women who have been admitted to the hospital during pregnancy due to complication, it's pretty interesting.
The only thing constant is change. My changes haven't been high tech, but with all the medicaid coming to our local MOC instead of through the state, it is all change. And our rulebook last time came out 3 yrs late. So we learn as we can, hope we don't make costly mistakes and keep going with the thought that at least, we still have jobs and our clients have services.

Gina,
I'll be swinging for you. I'm sure you won't have any problems. Please don't stay away from us. We will miss you too much!
Several years ago, they wanted libraries to start doing fixed assets with all their inventory including the materials(books) and putting all the information on the accounting books. I did not even know where to start. I tried, but just had an awful time. I finally said I don't want to do this and gave up my part time job for a few months. I came back and got someone to help me and have been doing it ever since. Sometimes we just need a little breathing room to regroup!!
In government, things are always changing. I'm not a good one with change so it is harder for me. I'm just hoping to hold on 2+ more years until retirement and then someone younger and smarter can take over.
Both DGD's are coming tonight to spend the night. They will have to go home early tomorrow afteroon because DH and I are suppose to do a 5K tomorrow night. DH has said he is thinking of not doing it - just getting his t-shirt that is paid for!! I've got to go the grocery store at lunch to pick up something for them to eat tonight. I'm glad it is a early off day today.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!!
Linda
