Well, lets just say I must have burned a little stored estrogen yesterday.  I was, well, a little hormonal and maybe a b*****.  I had to apologize to my DH and to a coworker this morning!  This is reminiscent of my younger and not as mature years.  But, for yesterday's victims it was new behavior so they happily forgave me.    I hope this hormone thing doesn't get too out of control.   Wow!  What a day.

so everyone says the hormones should stop when our weight loss stops, when do the hot flashes stop -  I am lying her typing this in bed at 2:45 am dripping - I am so temped to turn on the air conditioning but I know in about 15 minutes I would be freezing, although that is a pleasant thought right now

I'm using the Combipatch for my hot flashes.  It works great.  If HRT makes you uncomfortable I believe switching all dairy to soy will help a little.  Soy has plant based estrogens.  The weird thing for me is now that I'm burning up all these excess hormones my periods have started again.  And they are whacked heavy.  I have an appt with Gyn in a month.  I hope we can figure something out.

were you totally post menopausal and then your period came back?  How long had you gone without a period?  I had my last period the day of my surgery and then 16 months later I started bleeding - I got an appointment with my GYN that day - she takes patients immediately for problems and she considers post menopausal bleeding a problem whether post op surgery or not - it can be a sign of cancer and needs to be checked out.  Thankfully I was fine but I wasn't taking any chances and neither was she.  She said any bleeding post menopausal needs to be checked via a transvaginal ultrasound. This gives the best picture of your uterus, ovaries, cervix and everything else.  This test should be the test of choice for all female pelvic ultrasounds, they are so much more accurate.  A regular ultrasound is blocked by the bladder.  Mine showed a little thickening and needed to be repeated in 3 months - in 3 months all was fine.  Never had any other bleeding and all is fine.  BUt better safe than sorry.  I wouldn't wait the month to see your GYN - call and get checked now

Due to heart risks, I am not allowed anything to prevent hot flashes.  I also have to be careful with soy, too much soy can really screw with your thyroid levels.

Thanks for the concern.  That's why I love this forum.  I spoke in length with my doctor and will have an ultrasound when I see her.  I didn't have a period for 16 months except I had some spotting when I went on vacation and forgot to change my patch.  My lab work last year showed I was very close to menopause but not quite there.  My doctor isn't overly concerned because my labs weren't all the way to menopause levels yet.  I am only 45 so it is entirely possible that I am just at the final stages of peri menopause and this is my ovaries kind of waking up for a last hoorah.  Plus I'm sure I am burning all kinds of fat stored hormones.  I am definitely following up with her soon, but I am not too worried.

there is something wrong with that explanation your doctor is giving you - once you go for 1 year without a period -that is menopause.  My labs said menopause for 5 years when I was still getting my periods 3 times per year, so you can't go by the labs.  Being you are on HRT - your labs can't be accurate - she is testing you for estrogen which is in your patch and also LH and FSH which can be affected by other influences - also affected by HRT.  You can't accurately test someone for menopausal stastus while they are on HRT and I can't understand why she would put you on it if she feels you arent' post menopausal.    If you are perimenopausal, she can put you on birth control pills but HRT makes no sense.

I wish you well and hope that is only hormones but please make sure the ultrasound is a transvaginal one - that is the type you need to see all the internal organs properly and to measure the thickness of lining of uterine wall which is what they look for in post menopausal bleeding.

Thanks for your concern. I'm sure in my attempt to just give the highlights I've confused you.  But, my labs weren't done when I was taking hormones.  That would be stupid.  She put me on HRT to control hot flashes.  BCPs have a lot more hormone than HRT so we went with that.  She has this under control.  I am confident in her ability to care for me.  Additionally, I was examined by my PCP and she is saying the same thing.  These periods are most likely due to my surgery and burning excess hormones.  My PCP has additional training in OB/Gyn so I trust her too.  I've been in the medical imaging field for 25 years.  I am a nuclear tech but my husband is in ultrasound.  (he scans hearts now so he wouldnt do my US)  I will get appropriate testing.  Thanks!

i think the hormone stuff does settle down as you get to losing more slowly.  But just think, the reason you have those days is that your body is releasing the hormones stored in fat that is burning.  So happy fat burning.

Tonya,
I can tell you if I'm not exercising, I'm horrible.  I know DH gets very upset with me some days.  My sister even told me I was mean to him sometimes!!  It settled down after the fast weight loss, but seems to have come back over the winter.  I hope it is just that I did not get outside much during the winter and since I have been getting out and walking, it has been better.

I'm glad they happily forgave you!!
