Tired of people telling me I don't need WLS!

One of the many reasons I didn't tell anyone I didn't need to tell.  My medical treatment is no ones business but my own and my doctor's.
I think the sleeve will be very good for you.  As Price said, though, make sure you address your eating issues.  I neglected to do that with my first WLS and I gained most of my weight back.  The surgery will help you do what you need to do to lose weight.  You should be less hungry and more easily satisfied.  My surgery helps me make better choices.  I have never been able to keep any weight off for any amount of time before.  I was good at losing it, and even better at gaining it back.
When I had my first WLS I had just reached a BMI of 40 for the first time in my life.  I wish I could have had a way to have it when I "only" needed to lose 50 lbs or so.  I felt no more fat with a BMI of 40 then I did with a BMI of 30.

I think most of us have experienced this.
I have put it out there and when I explain the health benefits, all but a couple of people quit saying that. There are always those naysayers, and those people you need to limit in your life.

Good luck and congrats on beginning your journey!

I was just under 250 pounds, size 24, but I am 5'9".  With the exception of my immediately faimly and my sister, EVERYONE told me I was not big enough.  Even the intake reps at the hospital when I pre-registered told me, and they had the LapBand.  It was soooooo frustrating.  Actually it made me sad.  I had one person say I would NEVER be approved.

Stand firm and get ready because once you start losing the weight, they will then say you are too thin.  I quickly learned the fastest way to stop that negative conversation was simply say, "i have not yet reached the goal weight my SURGEON has set for me."  No one ever argued that point.

To be honest, people have many different motives for saying the things they do.  Perhaps they battle their weight but don't truly qualify for surgery.  Maybe they are the "thin" one in the group and want to remain in that position.  Perhaps they know they need to lose weight - maybe have surgery - but are not courageous enough.  Who knows why people say what they say.

I will tell you tough....this is a one man show.  You and only you can do this.  You and only you will experience surgery, aftercare and the changes you will need to make in your life in order to be successful.  Do not depend on others to  clap for you or motivate you.  You must do this on your own.  The good news for us is we have this community and forums to come to for true support and understanding.

Stay focused, remain tough minded and know this is the greatest gift you are giving yourself at your young age.  I did not have surgery until my 50's......so sad I wasted my adult life never knowing how great it could feel to walk into a store and buy pretty, nice things for myself or walk into a crowded room and not feel like I needed to hide under the nearest table.  Good luck to you.

Thank you guys all so much for your input. It really means so much to me. I feel much better just knowing that there are others out there feeling the same things, and the advice you've all shared is priceless. XO

My DH told me to just back away from the table and exercise and I could do it on my own!!  After educating him, he was very supportive.

Good luck, you will always have people for and against WLS.  Just try not to let them get you down.  You know what your body needs.

Before long, they will be telling you that you are going to blow away if you don't gain some weight!!!

Thank you for your post!  I have just started my weight loss journey exploring surgery as an option and have already received this reaction from the people closest to me (with the exception of my mom who is amazing!).

All of the advice and responses will be tremendously helpful for me!  Thank you for everyone who took time to respond and provide their wisdom and share their experiences!
