B12, B12, B12... for my 4th anniversary

It has been a WHILE since I posted in this forum... so funny I remember when being on this site took up 1/2 my day.
Coming up on 4 years- the 50 cent version of my progress is everything is great! Got a little too thin about a year 1/2 out, had a 12lb bounce back, and am holding steady at 100lb weight loss.

Anyway- to my veteran friends out there, I'm looking for B12 suggestions. Think I have the D3 under control, that only took 2 years but I finally am registering normal after consistently being under the numbers.
I think injections are my only options. Anyone else get these or give them to yourself? I've heard for RNY patients the recommendation is 1000 mcg 1xmonth. Is that right (seems low).

To the newbies out there or anyone pre-op- I know this is harped on this site ALL the time- but get your vitamins, and not a stupid Flintstones either. I've gone through depression, fatigue, fitness injuries in the past 4 years, but when I'm faithful to my vitamin regimen, those all seem to magically disappear.

So what do we think on the B12 injectables? Someone must know

I use them every month.  My insurance doesn't pay for them so my doctor prescribed 32 ml, which is 32 injections and it was $8.  Can't beat that price.  I have been injecting them into my thigh muscle but this month I tried injecting it Sub Q, under the skin of my stomach.  I don't think it makes any difference.
I hate giving myself the shot but at least I get it out of the way.  My numbers have always been very good.

I take 500 mcg a DAY.  Sublingual of course.

Get the injections, especially if it will help get your levels up where they need to be, then maybe a sublingual everyday will keep them there?

Good to hear from you.  Also glad you're talking about vits... I've been slacking lately and really need to get back onto the program.

I have heard that there is a nasal spray form of b12, I guess for those that have difficulty with injections.
In the hospital setting, if your b12 is really low, we can give several doses in a row then once a month. It's the best way to get your b12 if you cant absorb sublingually. IMHO.
Good luck, and its great to hear that inspite of difficulties you are still a success!

I don't have a problem with the sublingual but I think the injections are great if you need them.

congrats on 4 yrs and come by anytime.

Congratulations on your 4 years.  It is great to hear from everyone that is further out and see how things are going for them.

I use the sublingual B12 from Sam's.  One everyday.  I know several people who do the injections and they have never had any problems with their numbers.  They usually go to the doctors office to get theirs.

I have been giving myself injections for the past 15 years long before my RNY.  they are simple, painless and cheap.  I am not sure how she gets them for $8 but they are still cheap.  I think the last time I got the 30 ml bottle it was $18 but there was a shortage for about 6 months, so I had to get 30 of the 1 ml bottles, so it cost $27.  The needles are only like $20  for 100 or you can buy then 10 for $4.

If you get them monthly - you dont need a script - you can just go to your doctor and they will give to you but many need them more often = like 2 times per month or weekly and then it is worth do it yourself.  I do them 3 times per week.  they are simple and painless  = you use insulin needles in your belly - some say you need to use a large needles into your muscle but it isnt' necessary .

the injections work much better than the sublinguals - some like to get a montly injection and then use sublinguals daily to supplement instead of weekly injections - I just prefer to do the injections more often.
