Im  2 1/2 yrs out of RNY.   The last few weeks Im noticing a huge increase in my appetite.   I use to have days  (certain time of the month) when I felt like I could eat a house.  But now Im experiencing this more and more.  Im trying really hard not to graze.  Im still within my "comfort zone" as far as my scale goes.  But this increase in appetite has me worried.   Any thoughts/suggestions?   Thanks  :)

You're a year ahead of me but I have heard folks say that if they go off their acid reducer, they feel hungrier.  I know I still eat every 3-4 hrs and can eat a lot more than I could before.  I can also mistake hunger for thirst so I try to get 20 oz in at least between meals.

I'm sure you will get some responses from our great vets who are closier to your distance out from surgery to see how they handle hunger also.

My surgeon had me on an acid reducer for 6 months after my surgery but then took me off.   Perhaps I should check into getting back on it.   Thanks Price.

at 2 years out I had to add a second PPI. I didn;\'t actually feel hungrier, but it seemed like my body was *making* me want to eat more and feeling like I *needed* something all the time.

Adding the second PPI,one am and one pm worked like a charm.

I am 2 1/2 years out also.  I still don't feel hungry much.  I eat on a schedule.  I am a stress/bored eater so I don't have to be hungry to eat!!

I am taking the over the counter Omeperzole - I have no idea if that is what helps or not.

Are you doing protein first and not drinking with meals?  I know that I have read that drinking with meals will just flush the food right through and you will get hungry sooner.

Good luck.

Linda,  I do eat proteins first.  I average 100-125 gr protein a day.   and I wait 30 min before drinking.   Its funny because I always worried  that I didnt have much of an appetite.   I could very easily skip a meal and not be phased.  But for some reason  lately Im always hungry.  Im going to check into the acid reducer.   Thanks!
