Hi Janet, thank you for sharing your experience with me as well. And before I go on, let me say CONGRATULATIONS on your transition to RNY.  After researching the blog a lil bit, I've noticed that a few people have made the transition from the lapband.  At the seminar that I recently attended, the Dr.'s office said that their patient's average 50lbs of weightloss using the lapband.  But for some reason, I'm thinking that they had higher expectations when the band was first marketed.  But I do have a question, what is protein coffee?  I've also added Vitalady.com to my list of sites to search for vitamins and such.  This site has truly been a blessing for me.  The ability to exchange information with people that have walked in shoes that are similar to my own, is just WONDERFUL.... Thanks Much!

Initially my first surgeon pushed lap and like it was the Holy Grail. He also said I wasn't a candidate for RNY because I had a history of blood clots. Well he was wrong on both counts!  As for protein coffee:
Gina (Major mom) is one of the experts. Most people mix their protein with warm water (you can't use hot or it will clump up) first, then add hot coffee. It's a great way to get your caffeine fix nd protein at the same time.  A lot of surgeons, including mine, recommend no caffeine for the first few months since it can be a stomach irritant but I had no problems.
I make mine a little differently. I fill a pitcher with about five cups of water and five servings of instant coffee (lately I've been using instant espresso.). Then I add 5-6scoops of protein powder (I use Syntrax Nectar Sweets Double Dutch Chocolate Truffle) and shake it up until the protein dissolves. I keep it In the fridge and use half a mug with my regular coffee. It lasts a few days.
Sorry for the loooong explanation but I never found a protein shake I could tolerate and this saved mr!

Hi & Welcome!

My BMI was around 40-41 when I started this journey - actually was worried that I wouldn't be approved for surgery, but I was. I had the sleeve 7/6/11 and without a doubt one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Some of the things that I do that I believe help are the following:

I joined Weigh****chers and although I don't usually eat as many points as I can have, I really like the support and encouragement. I have not said in meetings that I had surgery (I'm feeling a little guilty - but I have made many changes and the sleeve is a tool. Plus I don't want to chance any negatives from others in the meeting) I will be lifetime member in two weeks.

I am still low carb (dairy, fruits & vegetables - occ. whole grains), with occasional treats. I only have them on special occasions as I know I could get outta control with them so try to avoid them. My surgeon's diet plan is similar to Weigh****chers, with more of an emphasis on lean proteins first. I still drink my protein drink - even tho' my dietician said not to. I get at least 90-100+ per day.

I track on WW and myfitnesspal.com every day.

I use this site and this forum especially to keep me grounded.

Welcome! I love my sleeve. It is wonderful!

I had RNY on November 22, 2009. It was the best decision I have ever made. I had some complications afterward that were pretty scary. Even with the complications and subsequent surgeries I think I would still do it all over again. It has been life changing in a good way. I had high blood pressure, insulin resistant, joint pain, fibromyalgia, etc. Now everything is better. I am no longer on any meds. Before surgery I was on heart meds, fibro meds, and antidepressants. Fibromyalgia flares are down to about once a month instead of once a week.I am no longer on any meds.  All in all the best decision ever.~
Nothing tastes as good as this feels!

Welcome to the LW board, Nadia....

Make sure you do all your research on all the surgeries. I was scheduled for a RNY, but chose the DS instead as I needed the ability to take NSAIDS and I didn't want to aggravate my reactive hypoglycemia.

As to vitamins, here are some lists for you that Gina (majormom) and I keep handy for Vitalady:
