Please share your experience...
Hi! Well first let me begin by introducing myself, my name is Nadia and I'm seriously looking into have the RNY, with a BMI of 40, (w/ no cormobidities) Anyway, I was hoping to get some feedback from others that have already gone through the procedure. I've read so many mixed reviews, some lost weight, only to gain it back within a year or two. Any adjustments that you had to make post surgery that you found challenging? And what about those vitamins, Vitamins, VITAMINS....... :):) Do you find it hard to keep up with so many vitamins daily? Again, just looking for any information that you can share... Thanks!
I wish you the best of luck with your decision. This is a great board...keep reading...you will learn A LOT!!

Many of us find that staying low carb and high protein helps us maintain and keep the weight off. Others are able to do it in a more balanced way but often once you start getting free with carbs, it's going to lead to regain. Many of us also continue to use protein supplements to help us fight cravings and hunger. Our dietitians don't understand this but it does work.
Vitamins are absolutely nonnegotiable with RNY and DS. You will never be able to absorb some micro-nutrients easily such as iron, calcium, D, A, K, E and B12 but you will be able to absorb carbs 100% again.

Thank you so much Gina for the "Welcome".... And it's good to know that the protein shakes are still effective after surgery to help maintain and keep the weight off. I'm very excited about this new journey. I actually take multi vitamins and a few others now, I guess it just kind of made me nervous a little bit, when I read something that also included the words, for the rest of your life..... And that's when the panic set in. But now that I look at it, I guess those words also apply to INSULIN, HBP medication or any other medicine that is mandatory when you have health issues. But again, THANK you so much for answering my plea... :)
1 - 20 oz shaker cup with wire ball
4 to 6 oz of 1/2 & 1/2, water, or milk
1 to 1 1/2 scoops of IDS Vanilla-Cinnamon protein powder (Champion Nutrition Chocolate, Nectar Cappuccino or chocolate, etc.)
{shake} until blended
Pour into large mug
Add 9 to 10 oz of hot brewed coffee (decaf or reduced caffeine)
{stir}
Add hot liquid to cold liquid to avoid lumps. Keep the protein slurry below 160 degrees.

I can say that letting the bad carbs back in was a mistake. I can eat pretty much anything with no problems as long as I don't eat too much of it. I do so much better when I really limit the bad carbs.
Use the weight loss phase to change the way you eat. I also supplement with the protein drinks. They are a lifesaver for me. I do good when I am eating or drinking something. I use the Syntrax Nectars and they have no carbs and only 90 calories per scoop.
The vitamins are a matter of getting on a schedule and sticking with it. I do better the days I am at work. I get them all in on the weekends it is usually just stretched out more over the day. Be sure you are prepared for the vitamins(schedule and cost), like Gina said this is a must for RNY and DS.
Good luck and let us know if we can help you.

Hi Linda! Thank You so much for sharing your knowledge with me. Syntrax Nectars have also been added to my list of company's to explore as I start my journey to a NEW and HEALTHY me. Your weightloss is AWESOME and I can only pray that I'm as successful. I'm usually really good with taking my vitamins now, but Iike you said, it's a LOT easier for me to stick to a schedule during the week because of my work schedule. But at this point, I'd rather commit to taking a few vitamins than other insulin, etc. Again, thank you for calming my fears.... This board has been AWESOME and for that I'm truly grateful.
