Home from a long week in the hospital.

So some of you know off facebook I have been in the hospital.  Wednesday the 16th I started getting some really bad burning and cramping pain in my my lower abdomen, and had some really bad hurting diarrhea.  It went away a little bit, then the next morning the burning feeling came flaring back.  I tried to take my percocet, and get on with my day.  My surgeons had said this pain was being caused by my gallbladder and that was scheduled to come out on March 1st.  I was a wreck just feeling like this wasnt normal at all.   I called my surgeons office and they said come on in for a visit but everything is mostly likely OK.  So I go to the surgical clinic at the hospital about 1pm.  I sit and sit with pain just getting worse and worse.  Finally I see 2 of the residents, and they start pushing on my stomach I was in so much pain I was crying.  You could see them kind of roll their eyes like maybe I was blowing things out of proportion.   So they go ahead and order up some labs and a CT.  So finally at 5:30 Im getting my CT scan, and the surgical clinic is closed by this point.   During the CT I started throwing up uncontrollably, and it kept coming up.  So I go wait in the waiting room on the surgical floor in complete pain, and had to be wheeled in a wheel chair up there because my body was shutting down quick.  The resident came in said I was getting admitted for surgery now.   That my surgeon will be right in to talk to  me.  I guess my bowel was in the process of  shutting down completely and what they internally said was just an internal hernia, an easy repair was more than that.   My internal hernia had actually caused a tear, so I had fecal matter releasing in my abdomen.  My lower bowel was tangled up with my small intestine, and was trying to fuse together with my colon.  Turned out they had to open me up, instead of just the lap surgery to get me fixed.  Although Im still not sure they did.  I have lost most faith in my surgeons at this hospital.  The general surgeon that helped on the surgery with my main surgeon, told my MIL pretty quiet, that this resulted after my RNY surgery,  The RNY surgery was my 3rd surgery to fix the sleeve that had gone wrong.  Im so confused and dont have trust in them.  I wi**** wasnt a military hospital, or I would have been out of there already.

So I got released this morning.   They kept saying they didnt want to start solid foods till I had a BM.  Then last night they asked if I wanted to go home after only being on solids with no BMs.  I said I want to try solid foods at least 2 meals before I would go home.  I wasnt going to get rushed out.  So this morning at 6 am during rounds they had me released.  Im still not sure if everything is OK.  passing gas is so very painful, and that is still all Im doing.    Also when I last weighed myself at home before I was 145, when I got home today I was 169.  How is that even possible.  Surely gas and Iv fluids cannot add that much, and I wasnt even eating.  Just very frustrating.

At least my hubby should be home in the next couple of days to help me.  The emergency red cross message was sent out Thursday night, but due to lots of snow over there its been hell trying to get anyone in or out of there.

Sorry for the long post, just an update.

I've been so worried about you, Aimee. Thanks for the update and explanations--I think I would have slapped those residents into next week for rolling their eyes. You've done a great job advocating for yourself. Dealing with those military docs can't be easy. You are a strong and smart woman. This is not your fault or something they can place blame on. It happens sometimes and it can happen to normies too. I'm so glad your DH will be home to help you soon. Find a silver lining where you can.

Oh Aimee, what a nightmare.  I'm so glad you went in when you did, even if they were slow on the uptake to get you taken care of.  Certainly don't worry about the weight.  That will be taken care of when you get everything else straightened out.  I hope you have someone at home to help until DH can get there.  I hope they gave you something to help with the poop issues, stool softener at least.  I'm swinging for you. lady.

Oh Aimee, I am so sorry you had to go through this.  I have read how very serious this can be.  I'm so glad you didn't let their reaction stop you from getting help.

Hope you have a speedy recovery.  I'm sure the gain is from the IV's and meds.  It should come back off once you are up and around.

Take care of yourself.  I'll be thinking about you.

Oh Aimee, what an horrific ordeal. You must feel like something ran over you. :(  I hope your husband gets there soon.

The weight is just the fluid. It's weird, I know.  Don't worry, it will go away.

Sending you good thoughts for a speedy recovery and no more scary medical problems.

Yikes!  Hope you are over the worst now.  Is your MIL helping you out with the kids?

I don't want to heap additional scorn on military doctors, but when I had my son by c-section they almost sliced my bladder open!  I can't imagine what would have happened if that had occured.  They had to stop the section to drain my bladder.  Apparently the catheter wasn't in right so the bladder was distended which I guess is more the nurse's fault than the doctor.  Still.  I was glad to get out of there.
