Funny Valentines Dinner (food funeral) Hi Roz!

I can't believe it, but I'm on the inside of a month until my surgery (27 days).  For those of you that are waiting several more weeks/months, it will get here so enjoy this journey.  I will be honest, I have been enjoying food - A LOT lately.  Which brings me to a funny story.....

My sweet husband wanted to cook me dinner last night since we are not going to be home tonight.  I had taken a few horses to the vet to get some shots they needed so I didn't get home until 6:30.  It was raining and nasty here in central Texas (near Waco) so it was a treat for my husband to be in the house before 7 anyway.  I was on my way home and he called to tell me how awesome the steaks were and he couldn't wait for me to get home and eat.  I know I'm rambling, sorry.  When he called I told him and the kids to go ahead and eat while it was hot, I had to stop and get our youngest boy a gift for his teacher for Valentines Day.  So, I finally get home and DH comes out to the barn to help me put up the 3 horses.  He is telling me he can't wait for me to come inside and eat (now he is excited because 1.  he cooked, and 2.  he didn't burn it).  We walk in and the meat platter only had 2 empty "t" bones on it.  My DH looked at my 13 year old laughing and said, "where did you hide mom's steak?".  My 13 year old laughed and said I don't have it.  Well about that time we hear Sophie (my beautiful, harmless, gentle giant Great Dane) licking her lips and finishing up the entire t bone steak.  Now of course my husband was soooo mad, but I think my baby girl is just the smartest dog ever - she could have gone for one of the empty bones but instead took the full steak.  Sophie has probably only taken food off the counter 2 or 3 times ever and she is 6.  I told my husband she is preparing for my surgery too, having her own food funeral.

I will say I have had so many students give me yummy chocolate today and the Valentines parties have not even started yet.   I'm going to enjoy myself this year instead of feeling very guilty.

Hope everyone has a great "love" day!

OMG, that is so funny and absolutely what my dogs would have done if they could.
Believe me, she won't have a food funeral.  If anything she will probably eat better then ever if she is anything like my dogs.  Because I eat so little they ave swimming in leftovers.  They are Chihuahuas and my baby girl has doubled her weight since my surgery.  She is definitely morbidly obese.  She used to weigh 4 lbs and now she is over 8 lbs.  Her brother has gained at least 4 lbs, too, from 8 lbs to 12 lbs.  They are the best fed dogs around.

I love it.  I can just picture that big ole beautiful dane head, licking her chops.

dogs rule our lives.  My daily decision isn't what to cook me and DH, it is what to cook Ziggy, the 15yr old fiest.  She has something going on with her liver and she isn't going to be with us for much longer.  She stopped eating several months ago and we started cooking for her to get her to eat.  I'm not talking missing a meal, but not a bite for days.  So now we bake chicken quarters for her, cook hamburger, etc.  Last night she had left over potroast.  Tonight I am cooking hamburger with onion soup mix because she liked the onion soup on the pot roast.  Lord knows what DH is going to feed her while I am in the hospital.

So sorry about Ziggy.  My JJ has congestive heart failure so I don't know how long he has, either.  He is 12 and the vet gave him a year to live and that was nearly 2 years ago.  He is taking medication and seems ok for now.  I spoil him, too.  He gets cheese and hot dogs to take his medication in and loves it.  He sits with me and shares my meals.  Thankfully he still loves to eat.  I know when he doesn't want to eat it won't be good and I will be right with you, cooking whatever he wants to keep him eating.

LOVE IT!!!  That was so sweet of your DH!!!  My DH doesn't cook but I'm sure I'll get flowers.

Our DD and family have been living with us for 3 years while saving for the house that they are breaking ground for in March.  My DH HATES inside animals but it was darling grandson and yorkie or no darling grandson so he caved.

We can't keep Harley off of the table so that wouldn't happen at our house because we have learned our lesson many times over to put food out of his reach.  As for him sharing in the food funeral...LOL  He gets all of my scraps and is going miss me terribly when they finally move in the fall. DH is going to through a fit when I ask him for a puppy!

I'm glad you are enjoying your last few weeks!  I still have a few regrets about Max and Ermas chocolate cake.  DD's and I were suppose to share a piece and we just couldn't get our schedules together.

Hi,

So funny your Great Dane got your steak. Last week one of our dogs got our rump roast off the counter. I thought I had it far enough back. When my husband went for seconds, Sally (our dog) had it and was almost done with it!

Enjoy those food funerals! Time will fly! I cannot believe I am about 7 1/2 months out. What a great journey & learning experience.
