Good Morning. How many LWs does it take...
" good and bad" are relative terms. I' m sure there are many "good" nuts,at least "good" in the eyes of the American Dietetic Association,AKA the ADA,who advise patients by using the " food pyramid" cause that is what they learned in school..
But,for WLS folks? Maybe not so "good",esp since out guts/stomachs don't work like normal ones anymore. How can advising *all* of us on ADA guidelines be the *right, good* advise for every one of us?
They are learning what they have learned about the needs of WLS peeps on the fly, they certainly didn't'
t learn it in classes as there are no classes labeled "bariatric patients 101"
the most a bariatric patient can hope for is to luck up with one who has made helping bariatric patients a priority in their after school education,to learn *FROM* bariatric patients what works for us pre op,post op, and long term, instead of simply spouting out a bunch of crap that doesn't help and ultimately can contribute to failure for some.
Gina has been lucky to have one of those where she attends but the vast majority f patients don't have that type of reality in their nuts.

I see surgeons, NUTs and programs as falling into several categories.
There are some that understand that surgery is absolutely necessary and that we are not obese because of moral failings. Some of those have high standards and expect a lot of their patients because they know they can change with surgery and some do not.
In the other group, are those who deep-down (and sometimes not so deep) hate fat people and don't believe they can or will change. These are the ones who demand weight loss pre-op, preferably on a liquid diet, so that the fatties can "prove" they deserve surgery and not for any true health reason. They never expect their patients to lose more than the average EW. They set up their program with all sorts of rules that are designed to save us from our own impulses ... because of course we'll eat like pigs and eat horrible food if given the slightly provocation!
I think sometimes those in the first group, *****ally do understand, but do have high expectations can be seen as fatty haters too. Because some of us have surgery but resist changing our thinking and our habits and someone expecting us to be able to change is seen as "being mean."
