Good Morning Part II:

Why is it that surgeons and dietitians think we can change our lifelong learned relationship with food in a year's time? Discuss.

1) They've bought into the diet industry's propaganda.
2) They've never had a problem themselves so they assume this is something easily fixed with willpower.

None, that's what husband's are for...

As to the next one....

Why is it that surgeons and dietitians think we can change our lifelong learned relationship with food in a year's time? Discuss.

1) They've bought into the diet industry's propaganda.
2) They've never had a problem themselves so they assume this is something easily fixed with willpower.

1) They had to buy into it to pass the danged exam and their anatomy is "normal"
2) Considering a vast majority of people consider the obese LACKING willpower, why should they be different???? They should but prejudices are hard to overcome.

Light bulb..... none, they are all out playing.

Relationship with food  ........   I don't think many folks even know what a normal relationship with food is?  Is it really eat to live or don't most of us live to eat?  And that includes Drs and Nuts.  Their own bodies, matabilizims, exercise habits color their relationship with food and I have yet to meet one with an altered anatomy.

NUTS and Surgeons have bought into the:  We took the easy way out syndrome and that's all the help we deserve.

Oh Gina....this is a hot button issue for me.

I personally feel that obesity is VERY complicated.  And I still do not think the experts have really figured it out. There are so many reasons why so many of us are obese and for some it is different reasons/combinations.  Until our society figures this out and helps US, we are in trouble even with these amazing interventions of WLS.  To me, addiction, the chemistry of carbs/sugar and their affect on mood, genetics, multiple health issues that contribute to weight gain (diabetes, metabolic syndrome, PCOS, lipedema, etc), lack of activity, metabolism issues, easy access to unhealthy foods, poverty, etc are ALL components to obesity.  I am very grateful for WLS as I know I couldnt try to beat this any other way.  I am a trained therapist, somewhat intelligent, had worked on a lot of emotional issues, knew a lot about health, exercised for years, and still used food inappropriately.  I also had several health issues that probably made it harder and ALL of the women in my family are obese.  I HATE when the news does a segment about obesity (usually 1 min long) and shows obese people's mid sections and provides the newest tidbit on how to lose weight.  ARGGGHHHH!!!

Thanks for letting me vent!!!

~~Jennifer

p.s. it is finally snowing in NC.
p.s.s.  i tend to ignore when the lightbulb needs to be changed...the one in my garage has been out over a year.  not good.
