Watched Dr Oz yestarday and to my surprise, all of sudden there I see my surgeon on TV in front of my face.  He wasn't the first one that introduced the surgery but the one that they showed performing the surgeries and had 2 post op patients.  He is a fabulous surgeon and anyone in the NY area, I highly recommend him.

The show was okay, it could have gone into much more detail but considering how negative all the other shows have always been, I was happy.

I wish there were more before and afters with some discussions of there journeys, troubles - talk more about the diet and post op follow up.  But I think it was a start to get the surgeries out there.

He also talked about how they are trying to get WLS as a treatment for diabetes which I think is great.  I know I took my last pill the night before my surgery and within 2 months, my A1C was 5.0 and is now 4.7 at 3 years out.

Dr. Oz's shows always move rapidly and the content is generally superficial. I think the main goal was to show how bariatric surgery can be used as a means to control and put diabetes into remission. Also, that there is a lot of research going on with performing bariatric surgery on those individuals with a lower BMI to control diabetes. The jury is still out on the sleeve, but diabetes does go into remission with this surgery, perhaps not as often as with the RNY or DS.

Yes, it would have nice, if there had been some discussion about the DS and sleeve, but obviously they didn't allow time for more discussion about the various types of surgeries available.
