Topic: New and Counting

What a wonderful group of folks you all are!  I've been reading your heartfelt messages for several weeks and I think this is a good place for me too.
I made my decision about 2 months ago and started getting the required pre-tests done; tomorrow my paper work goes to my insurance company for clearance. Does clearance usually take an entire month to come back? What kind of loop holes can they be looking for if you have 2 doctors seeing and recommending the same thing? Thanks to all supporting us "light weights".

Here is my first post.  I had just found out I was doing RNY instead of sleeve and was looking for a new "home".  So glad I found you guys.

Hi Kat
I'm new to this board also.  I have been following the sleeve board but now, due to insurance will be getting a RNY.  My date is soon also.  9-9-10.  I am 4'11.5" , 212, and 61.  I guess I am a light weight also.

This is interesting. It looks like it took me 3 months to find this forum, and here's what I posted: "Congratulations!!! All your hard work has paid off." I was responding to Shannon D reaching goal. She did a great job.  Posted on 8/21/10.

Here is mine....it turned into a rolercoaster ride after this. My first surgeon wanted me to have the RNY and would not do a DS on a lightweight:

Topic: RE: Good Morning. Introduce yourselves LWs!

Hi, I'm Liz aka southernlady (had to add the 5464 on here) and my husband and I are both getting WLS. We live in Oak Ridge, TN now. He's going for the VSG but after doing my research, I'm leaning toward the DS because of all my co-morbiditers, esp my Diabetes. I'm 55, almost 56, and he's 50.

We have our first appt on June 15th but after we attended the seminar, I contacted the insurance company and last Thursday evening the Nurse Coordinator called us back and said that as long as we used a COE, ours WILL be paid at 100%. All we have to do is have all paperwork turned in.

So we are cleared to go forward quickly!!!

I'm learning all I can as fast as I can about all the possible types of surgeries so I can ask questions on Tuesday.

I am so excited and sooo nervous.  I have finally been approved and have a date of August 3 for my surgery.
I mostly read the posts on here and have gotten so much information that I can use before and after.  Thanks to everyone on here who contributes their time and knowledge.
I need all the friends and support I can get so please add me as a friend if you would like to.

Topic: Hello everyone!

I too am considered a "lightweight", although I never thought of myself that way. I was a little worried I would lose too much weight and wouldn't be considered for the surgery, but I think the Dr's office has the scale set a little "high"... lol My BMI was 39.7 when I went initially had my pre-op appointment.

I had my surgery on 10/21 and am 2 weeks post-op and have been doing well. My issue is I had my surgery in Virginia and I live in Michigan and will not have any support (groups, Dr., etc) once I get back. I'm hoping this site will be able to help me when I have questions, concerns and issues.

Nice to meet everyone and from what I've read, this is a great forum to be on.

So here's mine!  Of course, I only thought I was going to get my surgery then.  After some insurance problems, it finally happened in 2010!    Beverly

Topic: I'm new here, too!

Hi Everybody!  I finally decided to go ahead and introduce myself since I have been lurking around for a while.  I feel like I know you all already!  I am in "the process".  I meet with a dietician Monday morning, and after that, I will get my appt. with the doctor and at that time, will get my date.  Hopefully everything will go smoothly, and I will get approved quickly since I meet all the requirements of my insurance.  I am 53 years old,  5'0, 194 lbs with high blood pressure, so I qualify!  I have already learned so much from reading everybody's posts and look forward to going on this journey with all of you.   (I think you all are funny, too!!)

I only have 37 pages.
I don't have a clue what the topic was about.

Topic: RE: About as supportive as a blade of grass...

I had an open procedure and my 15 year old daughter was supposed to take care of me.  Yeah, right.  Fortunately I don't have to lift anything heavy and I've been able to get myself fed and stuff.  The laundry is piling up though.  She did empty the dish washer for me once lol.  My dogs are small so they aren't a problem.  I don't know what I would do with a 10 month old though.  That is a lot of work.
