Inquiring Minds Want to Know...Its a Private Issue to Me!!

I'm with you on this one. I return to work this coming Friday and I'm down 15 lbs since surgery. I lost 55 pre op and no one noticed! However, now my total weight loss is noticeable. I intend to tell them that I am following a 1200 cal high protein low carb low fat diet and working out hard for 2 hours a day, morning and evening. I was working out hard, on my elliptical, for the last 7 months, one hour per day, so I think I might get away with fibbing a little. A couple of people at my work have had RNY and have regained almost all of their weight back. They get talked about all the time behind their backs, so I'm not going to be gossip fodder. Let them keep on guessing. It's for me to know and for them to find out; I know I'll never tell.

I'm just starting wading through the insurance requirements, so I'm several months out, but I'm really boggled at how to keep it private when missing work for the surgery. Why do you say you were gone? Just "taking vacation"?

I had told one team i work with the whole truth, so they knew what was going on and have been very helpful.  I knew they would be, so that's why I let them know.   Other people, including the other team I work with,  I told that I was having my gall bladder out (true, but not the whole truth), and then, with my surgeon's office blessing, I told them afterward that I had had a variety of illnesses that required surgery to deal with my metabolism, and the weight loss was a side effect of the multiple things done to my guts.  A couple people said it sounded like gastric bypass, and I told them they could think of it like that, although it was not about weight loss for me.  And truly, it wasn't.  It was about the health, but the weight loss has allowed me to get healthy again.

One thing I never told anyone at work or most friends was how much weight I had lost until I decided I was done.  I found one of those weight equivalent lists online (one pound is a guinea pig, 45 pounds is an Irish setter, that sort of thing), and would give them the equivalent if they wanted to know.  Very few people asked me more than once.

I cut my hours from work to one weekend a month, so the way I've been scheduled by my boss, I've not had to work for five whole weeks. I can't believe I got sooo lucky and didn't get scheduled mid recovery. My schedule worked out so great for me. I didn't have to ask for time off at all.
