Hello LWers...

I've lurked around this website for awhile now...Im proud Ive made my choice to have weight loss surgery....it has been a real roller coaster ride with lots of ups and a few downs...I have chosen to keep my weight loss surgery a private matter!!  Why do people insist on asking so many personal questions about how I lost the weight?  Its a private matter and some of my friends are starting to hint around that I had weight loss surgery!!  What is the best way to respond to inquiring minds what to know?  I appreciate any advice you might have....thanks

They probably just want to know what is working because if you are like most of us, nothing worked for long.  I've been honest with friends and some peers.  Others I have just said the eating right and exercising stuff.  It's a personal matter but none of us lost like this before and haven't seen others losing like this without surgery.  I think folks are honestly curious about what is working so well.

Thanks Price for your message...your message says it truthfully, nothing has worked for me so far either...I understand!  I am a very private person...have worked really hard on this...harder than anything else in my life....I would just like to keep my success to myself without the fanfare...Yes and I do think it is curiosity for most people that see the new me...thanks for helping me to see the other side....

It is absolutely your right to keep any medical information private. Saying that, I've found it much easier to be honest about my surgery. It really does cut down on the whispering and behind-your-back comments that ARE going to happen as you drop a lot of weight in a short time. I don't go into any great detail, just that I had a procedure that will help me keep the weight off. Most people have been very supportive, and the few that haven't been I just ignore.

Thanks Caitlyn for your message...I understand your message too...I will have to just explain to people that I am following my diet and exercise to the hilt...Like you I wont go into details just more up front and as honest as possible...thanks for sharing!

I'm an open book and tell everyone that I had WLS.  I found it easier to just go ahead and tell everyone that to try and answer a lot of questions.

I think like Price said, people are just really curious about what is working so well for you.  Some may even be hopeful that it is something they can use!!  Some could think you have an illness and might be concerned about you.

Sorry, I don't have any great come backs.

I know exactly what you are going through.  Other then SOME family I have not told anyone about my surgery.  People ask and I state that I had an early midlife crisis at 35 when the Dr. told me to slim down or I would never see my son grow up!  I did a lot of research and with his help have instilled many life style changes that are contributing to my weight loss health.  I try to leave it at that. I had 2 busy bodies at my old job that would always pressure me, but I never gave in.  When they say you lost it so quick I simple state that I lost 60 lbs over a 2 year period, not really the truth I lost much more but I do not admit to it. When they ask what I eat I state high protein, low carb diet.  I have learned to become pretty cleaver with my responses.

Alternatively, you can simply state that it is a personal matter, and thank them for their concern and/or compliments.

Good luck on your weigh loss journey!

I tell everyone that I am under a doctor's care for my weight, and have taken 7 months to lose all the weight (the truth) and my primary care doc want me to lose 35 more lbs (also the truth).  I talk about my doctor's high protein diet, and his emphasis on exercise.   I have even had one person state that they always see me at the gym, so that's got to be it!

After a short while  KEEPING the results really is all about you  and Ur commitment to  diet and exercise I've found .

I wouldn't want anyone knowing about my WLS  and to have my success  credited solely to that .

I think once this cat is out of the bag  its out of the bag forever ...  and  I sure  don't want that .
