There are many ways to make it but you have to be careful because protein powder tends to clump if it gets too hot.
This is how I have been making mine.
I put a scoop of protein powder in a blender bottle with some milk or water and whatever sweetners and flavorings I want.  I shake it up and put it in my coffee cup and then slowly add the coffee while stirring.  It seems to work better if I put the coffee in the protein instead of the other way around.

Do you add the coffee straight from the pot or should you let it cool off some? I've been thinking about adding this to my diet as well. I drink a Adkins in the morning but I don't stay full until snack so I thought about adding a protein coffee to my diet.

I pour it straight from the pot but if you notice clumps in your drink you may want to wait a bit until it cools.

Here's mine:

Protein Coffee or Chai Tea
1 - 20 oz shaker cup with wire ball
4 to 6 oz of 1/2 & 1/2, water, or milk
1 to 1 1/2 scoops of IDS Vanilla-Cinnamon protein powder (Champion Nutrition Chocolate, Nectar Cappuccino, Nectar Chocolate, etc.)
{shake} until blended
pour into huge mug
Add 9 to 10 oz of hot brewed coffee or chai tea (decaf or reduced caffeine)
{stir}

Add hot liquid to cold liquid to avoid lumps. Keep the protein slurry below 160 degrees.

I do about an inch to an half in of creamer in the bottom of my cup and add my protein powders, stir very well till I get a nice slurry then add my fresh coffee on to of it. I have never had problems with clumping
