Doctor Visit - Another Update
So I saw my old PCP today and told her that I would like her to follow my labs and told her about some of the problems I was having getting them done. At first she seemed very negative about it, saying my insurance wouldn't pay and since I had them done within the last year I would have to wait.
I was beginning to feel like there is a conspiracy against me doing anything about my health. Anyway, she wanted to know why it was so important to me and I told her about how sick I got, which she knew because her partner was my doctor then. Then I told her about the surgery I originally had and how it involves a lot of malabsorption and I was supposed to have a revision to reduce the malabsorption but I am afraid I still have quite a bit due to the fact that my weight is so low. She admitted that she knew nothing about the surgery and that she felt she was out of her league there. Then she suggested a surgeon they work with, Dr. Eubanks, who used to do bariatric surgery. I guess he is a general surgeon but knows a lot about the GI tract. She thought that he may be able to work with me. She had me sign a release for my records and when they come her and her partner will get in touch with Dr. Eubanks and see if he feels that he can work with me.
So I feel a little more optimistic. I am hopeful that since he is supposed to be an expert in gastro he will understand my malabsorption and will be able to monitor my health with me. And if I ever need anything surgical regarding my WLS he will hopefully be able to do it.
So, cross you fingers for me that I can get a consult with this guy if he feels he can help me.
I was asking her why he doesn't do bariatric surgery anymore and I guess the hospital had to stop doing them because the malpractice insurance was sky high and that was the reason a lot of surgeons weren't doing them in Oregon. I can attest to that considering how hard it has been to find a bariatric surgeon around here.

That's good news! I hope he can take you on and get you the answers you need. I tried new PCP last summer and wasn't real impressed. He told me he wouldn't order the number of labs I was getting with my surgeon and didn't think they were necessary. Let's just say I let him know that's the main reason I was shopping for a new Dr. If he didn't want to work with me I'd find someone who would. So... I'll continue working with my surgeons office (who is in Virginia and I'm in Michigan****il I can find someone who will do things MY way!

Glad to hear this doc finally listened.
I am still amazed that my bariatric program doesnt do all the labs for vitamins. Maybe for the rny's they dont feel its necessary, or maybe its the insurance dictating what will be paid for or not..
Hope you get that appointment soon!
