Vitamins

I have to start taking my vitamins on Monday so I'm going to make a trip to CVS or Walgreens later today.  Any suggestions?  I need to get calcium and B12.  My surgeon gave me a bottle of MVI.
TIA
Mandy

Calcium, you want Citrical petites. B12, you want a 1,000mcg sublingual dot. Look for some Biferra iron at Walgreens. I'm  not sure if CVS carries it. Also look for dry D3. You want to be on at least 1,000IUs a day.

No.

There is almost no chewable calcium citrate you can get at a store. Almost everything at Walgreens/CVS/Grocery store/Target/Wal-mart/GNC that is chewable is also calcium carbonate.

The Petites are smaller than a typical calcium citrate pill but I think they also have less calcium in them. I use regular Citrical (not their chewable/time release stuff -- calcium carbonate again) and I can swallow them just fine but not everyone can.

If you want chewable calcium citrate, I think the tastiest are the Calcet Chewy Bites or the Bariatric Advantage chews that are like a Starburst in texture. They also have a caramel one that is like a real caramel.

They are pricey though. Which is why I go for the pills.

For a multi-vitamin, I'd go for Centrum or the Store Brand that says "compare to Centrum". Then take 2x the adult dose. There are some bariatric multis that are good but you can't buy them in the stores and they cost more too. I currently take Celebrate's capsule versions for convenience but I took Centrum for years with no issues in my labs.

I'm so sorry I posted and ran. I was reading all afternnon and didn't come back to the boards. I hope you found the Citracal. Even though they aren't chewable, they should work for you.

Marie's right...you probably won't be able to buy chewable calcium citrate and you definitly want the citrate.  I use the Citracel Petites that Gina mentioned.  You can cut them in half if you have trouble swallowing them.  I've heard of others dissolving  them in water but I never tried that.

I also use the Bariatric Chews.  I love them and they give me a little chocolate fix in the afternoon...which reminds me I think I'm just about out of them.  They are a little expensive but I think they are worth it.

I'm not sure if GNC has chewables or not.  I do love GNC's B12 though and they have them on sale a lot.

I use the CVS chewable generic of Centrum Silver.  I think it taste a lot better.  I think CVS has a 2000 unit dry D3, which would be good.  They have a store brand of calcuim citrate with D and Mag that is good but not chewable.  I do that morning and night and the chews during the day.  They have several sublingual options for B12.  if the calcuim and multis aren't on sale, don't buy but one bottle.  They go on sale all the time and I pick up several when they are BOGO.

Not sure where you live, Mandy, but I get my chewable Citracal (chewable calcium citrate + D3) at Ralphs grocery store.  They always have them in stock.  I've been taking them before my surgery as well as after.

Are you sure it's Citrical? Because they do make a chewable but it's tricalcium phosphate, not calcium citrate.

Oooohhh!  You're right!  It does say tricalcium phosphate.  My NUT said "Citracal Calcium Gummies for calcium citrate" and referred me to Ralphs nearby.  I didn't even CHECK further past the word citrate (which is actually next to sodium) D'OH!!!  Guess I'll heed everyone else's advice and thank you Mandy for asking this question!! ha
Not sure what my NUT was talking about now.
