I need some advice

I've been talking to a friend of mine that was sleeved before me . She's doing great and loving life. I on the other hand, am not happy. I feel like I am starving to death. I am hungry all the time, and never get full. My friend thinks that I need a better acid reducer. I am taking two Prilosec a day. Only thing I know for sure is that I'm sorry I had surgery. I would rather be fat than be this miserable.

Well darn.  I don't think you should be really hungry all the time.  I know I didn't feel full until I was past full but I wasn't hungry either.  Maybe it is acid and something stronger would help but I don't know what that would be.  I bet there is something.  Eating carbs makes some folks hungrier.  Are you staying away from simple carbs?  I bet you are cause I know how hard you have tried to do everything right. Lots of times when I think I am hungry, drinking is what I need to do instead of eating and it works.  Are you getting your fluids in plus some?  Do you have another Nut appointment?  If you aren't eating carbs, are getting your fluids and am taking your acid reducier, maybe it is time to see the Nut or Dr.

I'm trying very hard to eat only the right things. Dr's office is no help. Can't see anyone until the middle of Dec. this sucks . Thought I picked my surgeon well, but I did not. He may be a great surgeon, but his after care sucks.

Its true that acid mimics hunger, you may need something different, your pcp could do that for you.

yours may not be strong enough or maybe your need a stronger dose or a different med.. At about 5 weeks out i was hungry although i would get fill id be hungry within 20- 30 mins and that was acid..

how much are you eating at a time? and what foods are you eating? dense protein will fill you alot quicker than stuff like greek yogurts. also i find fatty meats fill me longer like rib steak..

you definatly should not be feeling miserable... do you know what size sleeve he gave you?

I can't eat much, but if I eat carbs, I get hungry within an hour.  If I stick to protein, then I'm good to my next meal.  You might try that.  You should also look to see if you're eating "slider" foods.  Those don't stay in anyone's stomach as long as food with more fiber etc.

I know my hunger is not acid related - as I'm on the maximum amount of PPI that can be prescribed.   I believe it is related to blood sugar.

Minime, it doesn't matter what I eat. I never feel satisfied or full. I can only eat three or four bites of anything dense. I have no idea what size sleeve I have. I even have a suspicion that Barker didn't do my surgery. I think his assistant did it. Anyway, I haven't seen him since about 2 months before my surgery.

I normally have a protein shake in the am, some lean lunch meat for lunch and a bite or two of whatever for supper.

ok it maybe that your not eating enough, try eating every 3 hours 5 or 6 times a day... if you can only eat 3 or 4 bites its not the size of your sleeve,,,

Do you have a food log? I found when I logged my food (an was honest as to what I ate) I found i was not eating ENOUGH.

"I normally have a protein shake in the am, some lean lunch meat for lunch and a bite or two of whatever for supper."

Sounds like I would be hungry all the time too. I still eat 4-6 times a day and feel like I am eating all day long ( I did have RNY though)
COuld you possibly add in an additional protein shake or 2 throughout the day to help with the hunger feelings or even start logging everything. You will be hungry if you arent eating.

Wade,

The first 2 weeks after my surgery i was in so much pain that i felt no hunger.  Once i had the drain removed and we realized what the problem was i was hungry.  I was starving week 3 and 4 were the worst weeks where i was sure I'd made the biggest mistake of my life.  I would eat and an hour later i was hungry.  I was white knuckling it to the next meal.  I truly regretted my surgery.  Week 5 and six the gnawing hunger died down and became more manageable.  Not comfortable mind but if i could distract myself i could wait until mealtime.  Then around week 9 i realized i had to look at the clock to remember to eat.  I don't know what happened but I'm 15 weeks out now and hunger is no longer a problem.  I'm wishing this forward for you.  You may just be in the trenches now on your way to the island like i was.  Good luck.

If you're only eating three times a day there is a big possibility that you are not getting enough in.  And a protein shake is not going to stay with you like some dense protein.  Could you do dense protein for breakfast, keep the protein shake for mid-morning and eat 4 times a day?
