today is my BIG appointment
I have the appointment with my surgeon today. I will have an education class (3rd one), visit with the nurse, a sit down with the surgeon and finally some time with the surgery date coordinator. ( About 3-4 hours in the office. ) I'm sure I will have labs drawn or at least get a script to get them when I'm fasting. I'm nervous and excited. I've done my homework; I think. I have a list of questions about the surgery that pertain to my personal history. I have severe GERD, I've always fought anemia, my dad has Pernicious anemia, etc....
But I feel like I'm going to forget something! What am I forgetting? I weighed myself today. I lost 3 pounds. Great, the one day I need to be plump and juicy so to speak. I weighed 222lbs, I'm 5'2" and I have sleep apnea, hypertension, pre-diabetic with a A1C of 5.9.
Help me out, am I ready?

My labs have always been the week before surgery so I think you will dodge that today. But good luck on everything else. Sounds like you are a great candidate for surgery and I'm sure you will do fine. Just go with all your questions and a positive attitude.

I was curious if they did your lab work? My labs were done 2 weeks pre-op and I was anemic. My surgeon took over the practice from a previous surgeon and was upset they didn't do any other labs when I first had my evaluation. If if I had prior labs done, I could have been taking iron all along... My surgeon wanted to change my surgery date by a month to correct the anemia but I declined because my mom was flying in town to help and I had already arranged for a nurse to come help my husband with his home hemodialysis while I was in the hospital. If you have always had anemia though, maybe you can just boost your iron until your surgery.
I hope the rest of your appointment went well and you have a date :)
