So Frustrated !!

I'm a nurse on a very busy L/D unit where 90% of the pts have epidurals and can't turn themselves.  This leaves me pushing, pulling, moving pts all day long.  My MD originally said take off 2 weeks.  I'm 1 1/2 weeks out and met with him today.  I explained to him that there is NO light duty on my unit.  He told me to take one more week and then go back and "take it easy".  What part of there is no easy on my unit does he not understand?  Sorry to vent, just very frustrated !!!!!!!!!!!!  I'm going to call and talk with employee health tomorrow and see what they say.
Thanks for listening :)
Mandy

Stick to your guns, Mandy. You have no business pulling and tugging on patients at 2, 3 or 4 weeks post-op.

Apparantly he has never had major surgery!!!!   There is no way I could have gone back and did physical labor during the first month after surgery!

Seeing employee health should help.  If it doesnt I would call his nurse and TELL them that you need to not lift higher than a certain # (20 pounds??)  until 6 weeks from surgery date and you need this on a prescription for employee health.  You could seriously hurt yourself.  Your dr is not being very fair to you and glad you could vent.

Good luck!!!

Actually, you need the same restriction that any other person who has abdominal surgery...lifting NOTHING over 10 lbs for the first 6 weeks after surgery and nothing over 20 for another 2 weeks after that.

Is that your PCP or your surgeon?  If it is your PCP, you need your surgeon.  I know the nurses who had surgery when I did all got 6 weeks off.

There is no way you can go back that early! Uggg I would scold them and make their ears red until they decided I should be off work longer. If they don't then, you make sure you go back when you are ready :)
