3-month surgiversary pic and (mostly) insulin-free

Today is my 3 month surgiversary. I have come further than I had ever imagined in such a short time. I was a lightweight, with my highest weight at approx 200 before my lapband surgery in 2006, and 189 at my RNY surgical consult. With the band, I threw up multiple times a day and eventually it slipped, and as a result I had to have it taken out. I decided to have the RNY as my revision surgery because first and foremost I would never have another band, and second I had had Type II diabetes for 20 years (first diagnosed when I was 24), and had overtaxed my pancreas so much that I was now essentially a Type I diabetic and insulin-dependent. RNY surgery helps with sugar metabolism. I live by myself and I was deathly afraid of accidentally taking too much insulin and collapsing and then dying. This is a real, every day fear of insulin dependent diabetics who live alone. I could die today. It is so scary.

Well, today on my surgiversary I have lost 34 lbs, am literally at my half way point to my ultimate goal of 120 lbs, my size 10 petite pants are now getting loose on me (started in a 16/18), and I am virtually free of insulin. I still need insulin if I eat bready or white carbs, but if I stick to mostly protein and veggies, I don't need any insulin at all.

Even though people always told me I was "too thin" for WLS, I believe this will be the best thing I've ever done for myself. I certainly hope the rest of my lifetime goes as smoothly as these first three months have gone.  I couldn't have done this without all the advice of all of you fellow lightweights!  Thank you so much for everything.

Left side is last Christmas at about 195 lb, right side is a few pounds ago, about 160.
