The NSAID issue helps even more if you already take them. :) I have been on celebrex since 2000 and have documented degenerative spinal arthritis. But a family history, esp if it's on both sides is a good indicator that you will probably have it down the road too.

I ended up fighting for mine but it was not for the surgery but the surgeon. They did not want me to go out of state and had I not gotten very lucky, I would have been on a third appeal for that one...there is/was ONE surgeon in the entire state who 1) does the DS 2) will do a DS on a lightweight and 3) took medicare.

Duodenal Switch (Lap) 01-24-11 | Surgeon: Stephen Boyce | High weight: 250 in 2002 | Surgery weight: 203 | Lowest weight: 121 | Current weight: 135 | Goal weight: 135

I have BCBS Federal and had no problem getting approved for a sleeve with a 40 BMI and no co-morbids. My surgeon said that it was his experience with my insurer that they'd approve me for DS as well if i wanted it.

Hi,

I have FED BCBS and my Bmi was 40. I didnt have any problems at all. I did have to do the 3 months supervised diet though.

I had the sleeve, not DS.

Good luck! It is almost worse jumping though the hoops for insurance than the actual surgery.

Keep us posted!
